The rain has played a significant role in the Vitality T20 Blast with none of the sides spared by incessant weather. In a must-win scenario, a washout can be rather frustrating for a team as was the case for Northamptonshire Steelbacks when they met Worcestershire Rapids a couple of days ago. Stranded at the seventh points in the points table, Northamptonshire Steelbacks will have another opportunity to climb the ladder when they face Lancashire Lightning in their upcoming fixture which is to be played at County Ground in Northampton on 14th August. Even though Lancashire are sitting pretty well at the top of the table, a loss in their last match may prove to be a wake-up call for them. Northants, on the other hand, wouldn't be particularly satisfied in splitting points with Worcs and will be desperate to get two important points here and get to the fourth spot, provided other results go their way as well.
Northamptonshire Steelbacks have arguably been the most unfortunate team in the tournament so far. Just when they were looking like picking up some momentum, they had their two consecutive matches washed-out due to the relentless rain. First, it was against Leicestershire Foxes where they bowled exceedingly well under an overcast sky before rain closed the game down during their innings.
Their last match, against Worcestershire, was washed out without a ball bowled, which would undoubtedly have shattered the players' morale, who were itching to go out on the field. The North Group of Vitality T20 Blast is jam-packed with not much of a difference between the team placed at the second spot and Northamptonshire. Things aren't going to be easy for them, and they are going to need every single point they can get starting from their upcoming fixture.
Rob Keogh has been in terrific form for the Steelbacks this year, and his performances in the middle-order have been lone efforts in vain more often than not. Adam Rossington has done well as well, but lack of contributions from any of their remaining batsmen has hurt them big time. If their batting can get its act together in the upcoming fixture, Lancashire Lightning certainly won't find it easy to deal with the Steelbacks.
Richard Levi, Adam Rossington, Josh Cobb, Alex Wakely, Dwaine Pretorius, Rob Keogh, Faheem Ashraf, Graeme White, Luke Procter, Nathan Buck, Ben Sanderson.
Lancashire Lightning have arguably been the best side of their ground, and their loss to Birmingham Bears came as a shock to many. That loss was their first of the tournament, and the Lightning will certainly not want to extend this losing streak any further.
Lancashire Lightning has although been a little light in the tournament so far; it was never hammered around in any of their matches. Their bowling was highlighted of a couple of vulnerabilities against the Bears which could be exploited by other teams in the games to come.
Liam Livingstone and Glenn Maxwell have been in terrific form for the Lightning, but it was a Maxwell only show against Bears as his dismissal triggered a massive slow-down from which they could never recover. Glenn Maxwell smashed 79 runs off just 39 deliveries as he helped Lancashire trim the margin of defeat to only 15 runs.
Alex Davies, Liam Livingstone, Steven Croft, KK Jennings, Danny Lamb, DJ Vilas, James Faulkner, Josh Bohannon, Saqib Mahmood, Richard Gleeson, Matt Parkinson.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy team for the Vitality T20 Blast match which is to be played between Lancashire Lightning and Northamptonshire Steelbacks:
While this game carries significant importance for the Steelbacks, the significance to Lancashire Lightning might not be as much. The Lightning are already sitting pretty at the top of the table with 13 points to their name, and another win should, more or less, ascertain their qualification to the next round. Northamptonshire Steelbacks, on the other hand, desperately need to register a win here unless they want to rely on others' results. Comparing the two teams on the basis of form in the tournament so far and on paper, Lancashire Lightning are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
