About the Match
The two teams with contrasting fortunes clash in an important FLT20 game on July 20th 2013. This Midlands/Wales/West Division match will be played between Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Warwickshire Bears at Birmingham. The Steelbacks have soared in this competition as they lead the group with five wins from six games. Warwickshire is in mid-table mess with two wins out of five games. There won’t be any change in the standings if Bears emerge on top, but they can slide to fifth position if they end on losing side. Northamptonshire will be looking to get closer to the knockouts whereas Warwickshire will try to come out of mid-table mess and stay in run for the knockout spot.
Northamptonshire Steelbakcs :
A little has gone wrong for Steelbacks in this competition as they’ve posted five convincing victories in this tournament so far. Northamptonshire have a strong T20 lineup with Richard Levi and Kyle Coetzer opening the batting. The pair can quickly take the game away if they stay in the middle even for five-six overs. Even if they fail, they have likes of Cameron White and Steven Crook to take up the responsibility of scoring runs quickly. Azharullah won them the last game against Somerset and he was well supported by Willey and Middlebrook. The Steekbacks have a talented side with the experience of Cameron White and it’ll be tough to beat them.
There is big competition in the middle of table with Bears currently placed on top of that mess. A win would not only take them out to third place, but also keep them alive in the race to the quarterfinals. The Bears were once languishing at the bottom of the table, but two consecutive wins in last two games have brought them back in contention for a playoff spot. Chris Woakes is a utility all-rounder and has performed well in last couple of games. In addition to that, they have a decent bowling unit which bowled brilliantly in the last game. Their bowling also won them their four-day game against Notts recently and with Woakes in good form, they can certainly replicate it in shortest version of the game too.
Historically Warwickshire Bears have an edge over Northamptonshire, but the Steelbacks are in a rampaging mood. Warwickshire was on the losing side in last encounter in this season between the two sides and will be looking for a revenge to bounce back in this tournament. Can Northamptonshire repeat the result of that last encounter in this game as well? The Bears enjoy home advantage and they are going good with two consecutive wins to their name, but I think that Steelbacks will emerge on top on the match day due to their astonishing form and better team on paper.
