NOT vs DER Match Prediction - Sep 13, 2020

With a massive loss in their previous match, Derbyshire find their chances of staying in the hunt in jeopardy. To stay in the hunt, they'll now need to register a win in perhaps their most difficult assignment of the tournament so far as they face Nottinghamshire in the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast contest. Nottinghamshire Outlaws are placed at the top of the North Group table and are yet to be defeated.

This upcoming match between Nottinghamshire Outlaws and Derbyshire Falcons is a classic battle between the table-toppers and the underdogs. While it appears to be a mismatch on paper, it could get a lot closer on the field. The two teams are set to meet at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham, on 13th September 2020.

NOT vs DER Team Previews

Nottinghamshire

Yet another scintillating innings from Joe Clarke helped Nottinghamshire Outlaws maintain their supremacy at the top of the points table. With a recent win over Lancashire Lightning, who are placed at the second spot, Nottinghamshire inched closer to a place in the knockouts. With four wins in six matches and zero defeats, Notts have ten points to their name, and another win here should be enough for them to cement their position.

While a total of 167 was never going to be enough at Trent Bridge, Joe Clarke ensured that there are no bitter surprises. Nottinghamshire lost Chris Nash early in the chase, but little did Lancashire know about the incoming thunder. Joe Clarke hammered 77 runs off 36 balls with Alex Hales and Ben Duckett playing second-fiddle to him. Clarke was dismissed in the 14th over with Notts still needing 34 runs to get across the line. Tom Moores and Dan Christian sealed the deal without any further damage as Notts thumped Lancashire with three overs to spare and six wickets in hand.

While it was Clarke's innings that made things look incredibly easy, it was actually the Notts' bowling effort that set up the game for them. Keeping Lancashire to a modest total on a ground with a history of having towering totals being scored was an incredible effort. Even though Luke Fletcher and Jake Ball were expensive, Notts' spinners did their job perfectly. Samit Patel, Imad Wasim, and Steven Mullaney together gave away just 73 runs in 12 overs combined with Samit Patel picking up two wickets. The addition of Imad Wasim certainly seems to be working for the Notts, whose bowling, at one time, appeared to be rather one-dimensional.

All in all, With a versatile bowling attack and a batting lineup that can scale down even the tallest of totals, beating Outlaws is going to be a steep uphill climb for any team in the competition.

Derbyshire

Going by the points table, Derbyshire is one of the worst-performing teams in the Vitality T20 Blast this year and not many would disagree with that. Despite being featured in four completed games, Derbyshire are still searching for their first game. They have two points to their name and a net run-rate of -2.337.

Derbyshire are coming off a deflating defeat in their previous match, bouncing back from which is not going to be easy. Chasing a total of 223 in a must-win encounter, Derbyshire had no option but to come out all guns blazing right from the start. Derbyshire were slow to get off the blocks, but just when they looked like taking the attack to Durban, they lost a couple of wickets in quick time. Luis Reece and Billy Godleman looked good at the top, but once Godleman was dismissed, it were all curtains for the Falcons. The wickets started tumbling under the pressure of scoring quickly as they found themselves reeling at 95 for 4 in the 13th over. Leus du Plooy player a blinder of a knock, scoring 52 off 32, but that proved to be a little too late. Luis Reece contributed with 34-ball 42.

Earlier in the day, Derbyshire looked ordinary at best with the ball. Their bowlers failed to bowl in tight channels and they weren't supported by the fielders either. Dropping Ben Raine when he was on 18 proved to be costly as Raine's knock proved to be the difference between the two sides. The only silver lining for Derbyshire with the ball was a neat spell by Wayne Madsen, who gave away just 27 runs in his four overs and picked up a wicket as well.

Its rather strange that despite having a terrific lineup on paper, Derbyshire have struggled to register even a single win in the tournament so far. They have experience oozing through their batting unit with a decent bowling attack. Having said that, they have brutally underperformed in the tournament thus far. Derbyshire would need to play out of their skins to defeat Nottinghamshire in the upcoming match, and if they play to their potential, the job shouldn't be too difficult.

NOT vs DER Betting Tips

On paper, it appears that this game would be a rather one-sided affair. While that may be true, but taking Derbyshire lightly would not be the mistake Nottinghamshire Outlaws would want to make. Derbyshire have a terrific set of players available at their disposal and getting past them is not going to be easy. On the other hand, Nottinghamshire are playing at their home turn and that should be of considerable advantage. Considering that and the form the two sides have been in, Nottinghamshire Outlaws walk in as firm favorites to emerge on top in the upcoming contest.
