NOT vs DER Match Prediction - Sep 17, 2020

Nottinghamshire Outlaws are the only team from North Group to have already qualified for the quarter-finals. While they no longer have much incentive to rack up wins in the league stage, they would still want to take the momentum to the knock-outs. They'll be up against another team for whom the progression to the next round is no longer in question. Derbyshire are already eliminated from the running and will be looking for consolation wins in their two remaining matches. The match between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire is to be played at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham, on 17th September 2020.

NOT vs DER Team Previews

Nottinghamshire

We are near the conclusion of the league stage in the competition and from a total of eighteen participating teams, only Nottinghamshire are still undefeated. As it stands, they are leading the North Group points table with twelve points to their name in seven matches. Not only are they leading at the top, but they also have a terrific net run-rate of 1.464, which is going to be important should they have a poor tournament up ahead and tie on points with another team.

Nottinghamshire will be relieved to see their most experienced man in Alex Hales back in form. Nottinghamshire lost Chris Nash in the second over after electing to bat first. However, his dismissal didn't deter Notts' batsmen to go for the big hits as Alex Hales and Joe Clarke came good to lay a solid platform for yet another imposing total. Hales played the leading role in the powerplay as Notts ended their powerplay with 65 runs on the board. The pair added 93 runs in just 8 overs for the second wicket before Clarke holed out to long-on while trying to push the run-rate further.

Despite Clarke's dismissal, the contributions kept coming from their batting order as the likes of Dan Christian and Tom Moores added impetus to Notts' innings with their cameos. Nottinghamshire eventually ended with a total of 198 runs on the board.

While the total of 198 wasn't imposing, Notts' bowlers certainly made it so. Imad Wasim and Matt Carter were immaculate upfront, picking up two important wickets and giving nothing away. Derbyshire, however, clawed right back into the game on the back of a brilliant innings by Wayne Madsen, but excellent death bowling by Jake Ball ensured the Notts' unbeaten run stays unbeaten.

Derbyshire

Languishing at the bottom of the points table, Derbyshire have had nothing going for them in the tournament so far. They have only one win to their name so far and a total of four points, which are not enough to take them through, even if they win all of their remaining matches.

They are coming off a heart-wrenching defeat at the hands of Nottinghamshire in a game that they should have won. However, the fact that they got close to Nottinghamshire's score would make them feel a little more confident than they would have been walking into face Notts for the first time. It was a story of two halves for the Falcons in the previous match. They had a terrible start to the match none of their bowlers appeared to keep Alex Hales and Joe Clarke quiet. However, they miraculously managed to pull things back in the second half of the innings, giving away a lot less than Notts had generally scored in the death overs up until that match.

Their batting as well looked a little rusty in the earlier few overs as they lost Godleman and Luis Reece inside the first two overs. By the time the likes of Wayne Madsen and Matt Critchley took charge, they were too far away to be back in the hunt. Having said that, they covered good ground to lose the match by just 11 runs, and had it not been for a poor start, things could have been more bright for the Falcons.

Derbyshire's performance in the last match sums up their tournament as well. Derbyshire never looked like a competitive team in the earlier half of the team and now that they are no longer in contention for the playoffs, they have actually started to perform a lot better. It could be a case of having nothing to lose scenario and if they manage to ramp up their game in their remaining two matches, they could make things really difficult for their opponents.

Derbyshire Playing 11

Billy Godleman, Luis Reece, Wayne Madsen, Leus du Plooy, Matt Critchley, AL Hughes, Anuj Dal, Matt McKiernan, Brooke Guest, Michael Cohen, Dustin Melton.

NOT vs DER Betting Tips

It was only a couple of nights ago when Nottinghamshire defeated Derbyshire by a margin of eleven runs. The match happened to e a lot closer than expected and with Derbyshire having nothing to lose, we can see a spirited performance from them yet again. Having said that, Nottinghamshire are certainly a better side between the two, at least on paper, and are therefore our pick to emerge as winners in the upcoming dead-rubber fixture.
