NOT vs HAM Match Prediction - Aug 25, 2021

Right after a delighting conclusion to the Hundred, the focus now shifts back to the slightly more orthodox form of Cricket as eight teams gear up to meet each other for the knockouts of the Vitality T20 Blast. We still have some time for the County Championship to resume and the players will want to make most of this opportunity to play in the shortest version of the game before the World T20 sides are finalized.

The second quarter-final of the Blast is to be played between Nottinghamshire and Hampshire on 25th July 2021 at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham. Since the two sides have not taken the field in the format for five weeks, this match will test the mental strength of the players. Both sides are well equipped and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.

NOT vs HAM Team Previews

Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire Outlaws were arguably the most successful side in the group stage of the T20 Blast and their position on the points table reflects that. They finished at the top of the North Group points table with nine wins from 14 matches, aggregating 21 points in total. They have a stupendous net run rate of 1.503, which was best among all sides across the two groups.

Apart from the terrific show they exhibited across the group stage, they have been pretty consistent in their last five matches as well. They are coming off four wins in their last five matches and will be brimming with confidence.

As far as the team news is concerned, Nottinghamshire will pretty much have all their stars available. With the likes of Alex Hales, Joe Clarke, and Ben Duckett available at the top, they have no dearth of firepower. Besides, the presence of Samit Patel, Steven Mullaney, and Peter Trego adds to the experience the Outlaws already have.

All in all, Nottinghamshire appeared class-apart in the group stage and they certainly have a team that can repeat that performance in the knockouts as well. Having said that, it will be a new beginning, and getting into the groove is what will matter the most. They are without Dan Christian this year and that can have a role to play. If they can utilize their on-paper strength to its potential, there is no reason why they can't see off Hampshire in this all-important clash.

Hampshire

Hampshire may have struggled in the initial stage of the group stage, but they certainly did a commendable job to finish inside the top four to qualify for the playoffs. They won five matches on the trot to finish fourth in the South Group and have a decent net run-rate of 0.388 at the end. The fact that they seem to be peaking just at the right time might well boost their confidence in the match that matters the most.

It was primarily James Vince's form that got Hampshire qualified for the playoffs. He played more than a couple of useful knocks as Hampshire registered five wins in virtually five knockouts before the quarter-final. They have already dealt with the pressure of playing in a knockout in the league stage and that should help them in this upcoming match as well.

On paper, they have swashbuckling batsmen in James Vince, D'Arcy Short, and Joe Weatherley who all scored over 300 runs in the group stage. However, it was their bowling that helped in a massive way as far as the qualification to the playoffs in concerned. Mason Crane, Brad Wheal, and Scott Currie all picked up wickets at regular intervals and that allowed a not-so-high total for their batsmen to chase.

While Hampshire appear to be in excellent form of late and so does James Vince, the form is now at least a month old. It would be interesting to see how Hampshire manages to regroup after a five-week gap. If they can gel well together as a team, they will be difficult to beat not just in this upcoming match, but also in the matches to follow across the formats.

NOT vs HAM Betting Tips

Going by the way the fag-end of the group stage panned out, there is hardly anything to separate the two sides. However, Nottinghamshire were by far a more consistent side and the results speak for them. Also, Hampshire are a bit too over-reliant on a few of their big guns whereas Nottinghamshire have a wide array of players who are known to perform in big matches. That experience is likely to come in handy here. Besides, Nottinghamshire Outlaws are having the home advantage in this match. For all those and the other reasons stated above, betting on a Nottinghamshire win should be the way to go.
