Vitality T20 Blast has gotten off to a spectacular start with many exciting games already played. We saw a couple of unexpected results in the matches gone by and that good very well the signs of excitement to follow going forward in the tournament. Up next, Birmingham Bears are all set to take on Nottinghamshire Outlaws in an important North Group clash. The match between the two sides is to be played at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham on 11th June 2021.
Nottinghamshire Outlaws are coming off a bitter-sweet experience as they managed to claw back into their match against Worcestershire, but could not close the match. The best they could do was to tie the game and had to stay content with a shared point. At the moment, they are placed at the third spot on the point table with one point to their name.
Notts depend heavily on their top-order, more so on the opening pair of Joe Clarke and Alex Hales and while they both did well against the Rapids, they did not get any support whatsoever from the remaining batsmen. Chasing a total of 152, Joe Clarke and Hales smashed 76 runs off 39 balls combined, but the rest of the pack collapsed like a pack of cards. With the ball, however, Notts were brilliant as they restricted a potent Worcs' side to a manageable total of 152.
On paper, Nottinghamshire have a decent side, but as seen in the first match, they would need to execute things better. They have one of the best top-order amongst all teams in the competition and if their batsmen can contribute as per their potential, beating the Outlaws will be challenging.
Tom Moores, AD Hales, Ben Duckett, Joe Clarke, Peter Trego, Samit Patel, Steven Mullaney, Matthew Carter, Dane Paterson, Luke Fletcher, Calvin Harrison.
Birmingham Bears had a decent run last year as they finished third in the Central Group, which arguably was the most tightly contested group of the competition. Also known as Warwickshire, they looked a little out of sorts in Birmingham's match against Yorkshire in a match which was partially completed at the time of writing.
After being asked to bat first, Birmingham's top-order looked a little rusty as their top three combined for just 23 runs in total. Skipper Will Rhodes was dismissed for a third-ball duck and the team will need him to do better in the coming matches. Sam Hain, however, who came in at a tricky situation, looked superb as he scored a half-century without taking too much time.
On paper, the Bears appear to be a good side, which is reliant heavily on its all-rounders. In Tim Bresnan and Carlos Brathwaite, the Bears have experienced all-rounders who can both win the match on their own on their day. Having said that, Bears can't leave too many things resting on their shoulders and will need a lot more contribution from the likes of Ed Pollock and Adam Hose. If that happens, the Notts will certainly have their work cut out in the upcoming match.
Michael Burgess, Adam Hose, Sam Hain, Ed Pollock, Dan Mousley, Carlos Brathwaite, Tim Bresnan, Will Rhodes, Danny Briggs, Jake Lintott, Craig Miles.
Nottinghamshire Outlaws and Birmingham Bears both looked a little rusty in their respective opening matches. They both are coming off decent runs respectively in the longer format of the game, the reflection of which was clearly evident. While the two sides produced similar performances in the opening match, Nottinghamshire Outlaws are certainly a better side between the two, at least on paper. For that reason and for the ones stated above, placing your money on their win should be the way to go here.
