NS vs CH Match Prediction - Jan 14, 2022

We are just about into the finishing stage in the Super Smash 2021 and things are looking settled as far as the standings on the points table are concerned. Wellington Blaze Women and Otago Sparks Women have already ensured themselves of a playoff berth and now all remaining four teams will be fighting it out to grab the only remaining spot.

Central Hinds Women and Northern Districts Women are both languishing in the bottom half of the table and are likely to have a difficult time if they are not able to get some points under their belt. They are set to take on each other in the upcoming match of the tournament, the result of which match will clear a wide number of things.

The match between Central Hinds Women and Northern Districts Women is to be played at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Friday, 14th January 2021.

NS vs CH Team Previews

Northern Spirit Women

Northern Districts had a terrible start to their tournament and their campaign looks in a pretty bad stage at the moment, they will still be hopeful of a spot in the next round. Northern Districts are placed at the bottom of the points table, but that doesn't reflect a true picture of their performance thus far. They have played just six matches, a number which is two less than what Central Hinds Women have played, and can well and truly catch up in the back-end of the league stage.

A couple of wins in their next two matches will put them on par with Auckland Hearts and Canterbury Magicians and that is exactly what they'll be looking to do. Having said that, they have a pretty terrible net run rate of -1.151, which shows how poor they have played. They would need to improve that if they want to maintain their realistic chances of qualifying from here. A loss here will set their campaign back - eliminating them from the tournament in all likelihood.

One thing that weighs in favor of the Northern Districts is that they are coming off a narrow win over Central Hinds Women and are likely to be brimming with confidence. Batting first on a decent track, they managed to put up a total of 123 for 8, a total which was way under par. Their bowlers, however, produced an excellent effort as they managed to keep Hinds to a total of 120 runs, picking up 9 wickets as well in the process.

Just like Central Hinds, Northern Districts Women do not have much experience available in their team. As we have seen, however, there is no dearth of talent and that's what they'll need to come good in this upcoming match. They will need an absolute team effort from almost all their players and if they are able to bring out their A-game in this upcoming match, they will be a force to deal with.

Central Hinds Women

Central Hinds Women may still be placed one spot from the bottom of the ladder, they have undoubtedly been the worst-performing side of the tournament thus far. Having won just one game out of a total of eight played, the Hinds Women have four points to their name with a pretty poor net run-rate of -0.817, which will be inconsequential if they do not manage to win this upcoming match.

Practically and mathematically, Central Hinds Women are no longer in a position to qualify for the next round and might not be as motivated to do well as they could have been had they still been in the hunt. Even a couple of wins in their remaining two matches would take them to the 12 points, which will just not be enough with Auckland Heart Women and Canterbury Magicians Women already having 12 points each.

Central Hinds Women last won a match four matches ago when they got just managed to defend a modest total against Auckland Hearts. Post that, they have suffered three consecutive defeats, all coming with fairly big margins. In their most recent outing, they were defeated by Wellington Blaze Women as they could not defend a 123-run total.

On paper, Central Districts are clearly missing the experience in their batting order and a string of low scores, be it while batting first or while chasing, reflects that. Even though their bowlers have been decent, they just have not had enough support from their batsmen whenever they have done well. All in all, Central Hinds Women are a bit over-reliant on their bowling and their batting will need to play out of their skins for Hinds to do well. If that happens, Central Hinds could prove to be a perfect spoil-sport in the Northern Districts' party.

NS vs CH Toss Prediction

With surface expect to get better for stroke-making as the day moves ahead, batting second seems to be an obvious choice. However, the scoreboard pressure has so often been decisive in the competition and both captains will know that. Given all that, we expect the captain winning the toss to bowl first to utilize the early morning conditions.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface here at Mount Manganui has been a decent one so far with something there for batsmen as well as for the bowlers. After being set, the batsmen have merried their way on this surface, especially with short boundaries on offer. Having said that, scoring quickly right from the word go will be difficult given that this is an early morning match. The surface is expected to get better for batting as the match progresses. Any total of over 140 should not be an easy one to chase down here and the team batting first would want at least ten runs more than that.

NS vs CH Betting Tips

Even though the focus of the two sides would have been to finish a lot higher on the ladder than they eventually would finish, this match is more of a battle to avoid the wooden spoon and the team winning this match will certainly move ahead in that race. Northern Districts are coming off a scintillating win over the Hinds in their recent match and should be brimming with confidence. Central Hinds Women, however, have a better-balanced side, at least on paper, and are likely to be at their best with nothing to lose. Considering that and the other factors stated above, Central Hinds Women are our choice as favorites to win this upcoming contest.

Despite the conditions being not so bad, we have rarely seen high-scoring matches in the Women's Super Smash this year. With both sides not really boasting of their batting exploits, we expect the same to happen in this upcoming match as well. Bet on the match total to stay less than 280 runs.
