NSW vs QSL Match Prediction - Nov 27, 2022

It hasn’t been the best Marsh Cup for either state, as the last-placed Queensland will take on the fifth-placed NSW in this ODI series.

Each squad only has one win so far, but with Queensland slightly depleted due to player commitments to the Prime Minister’s XI, it will be interesting to see which batters and bowlers will step up to help their state pick up the victory.

NSW vs QSL Team Previews

New South Wales

If NSW are going to pick up their second Marsh Cup win of the season, then now’s their best chance against a lesser Queensland squad. NSW’s big victory over Tasmania will only embolden them to new heights and they look like a tough side.

The biggest reason that NSW can earn a victory here is the amazing form of batters Kurtis Patterson and Daniel Hughes, who have both been absolutely on fire in recent weeks. Hughes, especially, has a great average of 72.00 and has picked up three centuries in his last four matches (with one surprise duck as well). Patterson’s 92 runs against Tasmania is also a good sign of things to come.

On the bowling side, having allrounder Sean Abbott back in the squad is a large boost, as he’s in great form after his ODI stint in the Aussie team against England, where he took 2/45. We also want to see more from Hayden Kerr, who has impressed but needs to have that extra step. He took 2/25 versus Tasmania, which is a solid start.

New South Wales Playing 11

Baxter J Holt, Hayden Kerr, Christopher Green, Chris Tremain, Daniel Hughes, Kurtis Patterson, Liam Hatcher, Matthew Gilkes, Moises Henriques, Oliver Davies, Sean Abbott.

Queensland

While it’s true that Queensland did have a nice win over Victoria in their last game, the squad is going to look quite different in this upcoming Marsh Cup match.

Pace bowlers Michael Neser and Mark Steketee have been committed to the Prime Minister's XI game versus the West Indies, which is tough because they’re both bowling incredibly well. Star batters Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne have been involved in preparations for the upcoming Australia Test series against the West Indies.

The good news for QL is the inclusion of batter Matt Renshaw, who despite playing in the Prime Minister’s XI, will still attend the ODI game for his state. Renshaw is the danger man for QL, as he has a superb average of 71.38 and made 104 runs in the Marsh Cup a few weeks ago.

Queensland will also be hoping for a better performance from captain Jimmy Peirson, who hasn’t dazzled with the bat for some time. The addition of Joe Burns is exciting, as even if he doesn’t have much Marsh Cup experience, he’s been outstanding in the Sheffield Shield.

Without Neser and Steketee, QL will be a bit hampered in their bowling attack, but the responsibility will fall largely on the shoulders of pacers Kane Richardson and Gurinder Sandhu. These two are experienced enough and can handle the moment, with Richardson especially a fine fit with his recent time in the national squad.

Queensland Playing 11

Blake L Edwards, Bryce Street, Jack Clayton, Sam Truloff, Gurinder Sandhu, James Bazley, Jimmy Peirson, Kane Richardson, Max Bryant, Mitchell Swepson, Sam Heazlett.

NSW vs QSL Toss Prediction

NSW may want to bat first if winning the toss, as they should try to set QL an insurmountable target to chase.

Pitch and Conditions

It’s bound to be a good batting pitch here, so the bowlers will have to ensure they don’t give away too many easy deliveries.

NSW vs QSL Betting Tips

As Queensland’s team is without many of the best players, and NSW has mostly the same squad in the victory over Tasmania, it’s hard not to choose New South Wales in this ODI contest. NSW has beaten QL four out of the last five matches, so they know how to win against this state.

Having Abbott back is a positive sign, and the recent batting form of Patterson and Hughes means that this is one of the strongest sides that NSW has had for a long time. NSW will have to dismiss Renshaw for a low score. Also, the odds are pretty good for NSW.
