With the Abu Dhabi T10 competition going on, UAE has become a hub for almost all limited-overs cricketing action in recent times. This is the fourth tournament on the trot that has international players featuring. As was the case with other recently concluded competitions here, we are early into the tournament, but things are already looking pretty exciting.
Up next in the tournament, Northern Warriors are all set to take on Deccan Gladiators in a match that is of significant importance for both these sides. Deccan Gladiators have an opportunity to get into the two teams whereas Northern Warriors will be desperate to get their first win of the tournament. This is expected to be a high-voltage encounter and a cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Northern Warriors have gotten off to the worst possible start in the competition, losing all of their first three matches. Unless they are able to get at least one favorable result from their next few matches, they would certainly be staring at an early exit pretty soon. As it currently stands, they have zero points to their name and a terrible net run rate of -1.740.
Surprisingly, Northern Warriors are the defending champions and they have not performed anywhere near to what they are capable of. However, they have improved with every passing game and will want to keep this progress up. In their last match, which was against Bangla Tigers, they did manage to do well with the bat, but could not defend that total.
Northern Warriors have a lot of changes to their side as compared to last year and that is arguably what is hurting them. They are yet to get their combination right and they would want to get that as soon as possible. On paper, they have a decent side that seems to be a little too over-reliant on Moeen Ali and Rovman Powell with their openers not doing well.
While their batting seems to be a little weak, they have a terrific bowling attack that can keep even the best in check. The likes of Chris Jordan, Imran Tahir, and Rayad Emrit have plenty of experience behind their back.
Considering the bowling attack they have, they can be a threat to deal with if they have a decent total on the board. The bottom line is, however, that they would need their batting to step up in the upcoming match and the matches to follow for their bowlers to come into the picture. If that happens, Northern Warriors will be a very difficult side to beat.
K Lewis, Moeen Ali, SR Patel, Rovman Powell, Kaunain Abbas, Umair Ali, Abhimanyu Mithun, Joshua Little, RR Emrit, Imran Tahir, Abdul Shakoor.
With two wins from three matches, Deccan Gladiators have gotten off to a rather strange start in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. In one of the matches they scored a mammoth total of 146 and in the other match, they managed to score a total of just 97. They would want to believe that they do not fail as miserably as they did in their match against Team Abu Dhabi.
Despite their narrow loss against Team Abu Dhabi, Deccan Gladiators will not be disappointed, yet. Not only are they sitting pretty on the points table, they have also done a reasonably good job in all three departments of the game. We saw their batting strength when they scored 146 runs against Chennai Braves as the likes of Tom Moores and Andre Russell propelled them from a poor position to a position from which they were able to dictate terms.
In their two subsequent fixtures, which were against Team Abu Dhabi and Delhi Bulls, their bowling came to the rescue as they restricted the two teams respectively to the totals of 99 and 112. Even though they lost the match against Team Abu Dhabi, they should be pretty content with the way their bowlers delivered while defending a small total.
On paper, Deccan Gladiators have a terrific side that consists of some terrific exponents of the shortest format of the game. The opening pair of Tom Kohler Cadmore and Tom Banton is as good as any. With the likes of Andre Russell, David Wiese, Tom Moores, and Wanindu Hasaranga available to bat next, they not only have a batting lineup that goes deep, they also have good enough firepower to smash lofty hits at all stages of the game.
On the bowling front, as well, Deccan Gladiators have a surprisingly good number of options. Having said that, they do have some weak links in the form of Odean Smith and Wahab Riaz, who can be expensive when it is not their day. If the Gladiators can take care of their bowling, they should sail through to rack yet another win in this competition.
Tom Banton, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Tom Moores, Andre Russell, D Wiese, Odean Smith, Wanidu Hasaranga, Wahab Riaz, Tymal Mills, Sultan Ahmed, Anwar Ali.

This is an important contest for the two sides for contrasting reasons. A win for Deccan Gladiators will put them in contention for the top spot whereas a win for the Northern Warriors will put them back in the business. Considering the stakes involved, this is certainly a high-stakes encounter. Experience is going to be a key and Deccan Gladiators have that in plenty. Also, they have been in terrific form of late and will be brimming with confidence. For that reason and the ones stated above, betting on a Deccan Gladiators' win should be the way to go here.
