NZ vs AUS Match Prediction - Oct 18, 2021

When we talk about rivalries in Cricket, the rivalry between New Zealand and Australia is pulled out of the top drawer. And when they play a match in a marquee ICC tournament, the excitement grows manifold. The two teams are now set to meet each other in the warm-up fixture of the ICC World T20 2021 and they both will be keen to register a win here in this important contest.

Even though this is just a warm-up fixture and won't count towards the main event, a win here could go a long way for both of these sides. We expect them both to come out all guns blazing at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on 18th October 2021. It is going to be a feast of a match to follow for the fans.

NZ vs AUS Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand proved their mettle in the longest version of the game by winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship earlier this year and now their focus will be on the shortest format of the game. Although they have historically not been known for their exploits in the two shorter formats of the game, they have always enjoyed their time in ICC events. We saw them end up as runners-up in the last 50-over World Cup and they'll want to better that record in this tournament.s

So settled are New Zealand with their squad that they were the first side to announce to their final fifteen for this tournament. Leading the pack will be Kane Williamson, who may not have had a run to remember with Sunrisers Hyderabad, but still would be the mainstay for the Kiwis.

New Zealand have not been known to conquer the spin-friendly conditions and adapting to the conditions here in UAE will be their biggest challenge. Having said that, they do have the experience and players who can do the job and should be fancying their chances. Besides, they have a strong all-round bowling unit that can keep batsmen on their toes regardless of the nature of the surface that they are playing on.

With the likes of Kane Williamson, Devon Conway, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell, the Kiwis have a betting unit as good as any. Martin Guptill has not been in the top form of late, but his experience could play a huge role here. On the bowling front, the Kiwis have plenty of experience available in Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, and Lokie Ferguson.

Given the lineup they have and the fact that most of their players were part of the Indian Premier League that was played here, New Zealand should not have much problem in getting the ball rolling. Getting past them is certainly going to be a challenging task for any side of the tournament.

New Zealand Playing 11

TD Astle, Trent Boult, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, GD Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi, TG Southee, KS Williamson.

Australia

Australia may not have been in the form they are known for leading up to the marquee event, they are at their best when it comes to ICC events. The Aussies had a dismal recent run against Bangladesh and West Indies recently, but with their stars returning to the fold, we expect to see a much-improved performance.

Just like the Kiwis, Australia are more familiar with the quick and bouncy conditions, and these conditions in UAE would be a challenge for them. However, most of their players were a part of the recently concluded IPL 2021 and that should help them get acquainted with the conditions rather quickly. Also, the experience of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and David Warner can come in handy as far as dealing with the conditions is concerned.

Led by Aaron Finch, the Australians have a well-balanced side on paper that is a lot more capable of than what the recent results suggest. Maxwell had a terrific IPL and will undoubtedly hold the key to their fortunes in this tournament. Apart from hi, they have Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, and Marcus Stoinis who all can deliver big blows at will. Having said that, it will be interesting to see how they do on the slow and low surface of Dubai.

On the bowling front, Australia are well covered in both departments of the game. Josh Hazlewood finally found his rhythm to bowl in the shortest format of the game at the fag end of the tournament and could complement Pat Cummins pretty well. Also, the Aussies have Mitchell Swepson, Adam Zampa, and Glenn Maxwell to take care of their spin department. All in all, the Aussies have a well-rounded side and should be able to do a lot better than they have done in their recent matches.

Australia Playing 11

Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, JR Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.

NZ vs AUS Betting Tips

Even though this match will not carry any points and the result of this match will not have any meaning in the context of the tournament, both sides will want to get a favorable result here. Getting the combination right and gaining some momentum will be the top priority for both these sides and this match will go a long way in addressing that.

Even though New Zealand have a power-packed unit, they have a middle-order that does not have a lot of experience of playing on these kinds of surfaces. Australia, on the other hand, have plenty of experience available - be it with the bat or with the ball. Also, Glenn Maxwell looked in terrific form in the recently concluded IPL. For that and the other reasons stated above, betting on an Australia win should be the way to go here.
