NZ vs IND Match Prediction - Nov 18, 2022

India's tour of New Zealand is going to begin with three T20 internationals, the first of which will be played in Wellington. Series right after a big tournament can be tough as the context seems to be missing from such matches. India is without Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma among others, and is also without its coach Rahul Dravid.

This can be seen as an opportunity to build the next set of players for the T20 format. This could also be the reason why the cricket betting sites have India as the underdog heading into this contest. New Zealand has dropped Martin Guptill and Trent Boult from the squad but almost all of its first-choice players are available for selection.

With home advantage on their side, the blackcaps would be expected to continue their impressive performances in the T20 format.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for New Zealand vs India 1st T20 2022. The match will be played at the Sky Stadium, Wellington on the 18th of November 2022.

NZ vs IND Team Previews

New Zealand

Kane Williamson continues to get the vote of confidence of the New Zealand selectors and has been retained as the captain. Apart from one inning in the T20 World Cup, Williamson's strike rate was a major disappointment. It will be interesting to see if he changes his approach in this series.

With Devon Conway, Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, and Daryl Mitchell all available for this series, New Zealand has a strong batting lineup with plenty of depth and power. Conway and Phillips are the two players that we think could make an impact. of course, Phillips has had some issues with spin and that could be exploited by India in this series.

Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi are the three spin-bowling options that New Zealand has. Looking at the right-hand heavy India batting lineup, Sodhi and Santner should end up starting. Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, and Blair Tickner will be the primary bowlers with Neesham, Phillips, and Mitchell chipping in as needed.

New Zealand's bilateral record has not been great and we think the team is being a bit overvalued by the different bookmakers right now.

India

India is a bilateral series beat. It plays with more freedom, takes the attack to the opposition, and is willing to experiment a lot more. All things that it should be doing in the ICC events as well but that is a story for another day!

Under Hardik Pandya's leadership, we think India is going to follow the Gujarat Titans model a lot more. Expect Pandya to bat at 4 or 5 at the lowest to try and maximize his own batting abilities. Shubman Gill will open the batting but the second opening batter will be an interesting choice.

We think Rishab Pant might be given that role for an extended period of time with Suryakumar Yadav at number three, and then Shreyas Iyer in the middle-order (4 or 5). Sanju Samson should hopefully get his position at number 6 with Washington Sundar at number 7.

India has four bowling options to choose from and here we hope they will be a bit bold but we don't expect they actually will. Arshdeep Singh is a sure starter and could have Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik with him in the lineup. India is more likely to go back to Harshal Patel, though and leave out Malik.

It will be a tossup between Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav for the spinner's role.

There are a lot of different combinations that could be equally effective but this is a great opportunity for Hardik Pandya to lay down a marker. We hope he will be bold.

NZ vs IND Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bowl first. This is probably to do with the rain around and making use of any help that the conditions offer. History suggests there is no major advantage to batting first or chasing.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is some rain around in Wellington, as is usually the case, but we still expect a full match to be played. The pitch remains consistent throughout the duration of the match although the win conditions can sometimes bring the swing bowlers into the game.

Tim Southee has picked up 14 wickets in 7 innings at this venue. His economy rate of 6.36, an average of 12.71, and a strike rate of 12.00 suggest that swing bowlers tend to do well at this venue. More than 330 runs have been scored in the previous three international matches played here and we could be in for another game of around that range.

A score of 160-170 batting first should be seen as just par.

NZ vs IND Betting Tips

We like the odds being offered to bet on India at the moment. It is the clear underdog and that does not feel quite right. India has more youngsters in its lineup but that is not a bad thing. All of its players are very experienced and have played the highest levels of T20 cricket for quite some time now. We think they could surprise New Zealand.

Bet on India to win.

No batter has hit more sixes in T20 internationals than SKY in 2022. He is close to a 100 sixes for the year and is not afraid of going big from the very first ball that he plays. A great value at almost 50% return.
