NZ vs PAK Match Prediction - Jan 02, 2021

New Zealand won the first test match against Pakistan and kept its hopes alive of reaching the final of the World Test Championship. It needs another win in this series to be able to put pressure on India and even then it will need some results to go its way.

Pakistan has no chance of making it to the finals of the WTC but it still has a lot of pride to play for. This is a team that used to love touring New Zealand in its prime but things have changed over the last few years. The fight showed by Pakistan in the first test raise hopes that we may yet see something special in the second test.

Both teams have absolutely everything to play for!

New Zealand vs Pakistan 2nd Test 2021 is going to be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch starting on the 3rd of January 2021.

NZ vs PAK Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand is a very tough team to beat at home, and it has not lost a single test to an Asian team at home in the previous ten years. That is a great record to have and shows just how consistent it has been over such a long time!

Almost everything went to plan for New Zealand in the first test. Kane Williamson got a massive century, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, and BJ Watling got some runs too, and the bowlers did their jobs admirably.

There is no reason to change anything in the side apart from finding a replacement for Neil Wagner. He played with two fractured toes in the first test but surely cannot be picked for the second one in this condition!!

New Zealand’s team has an excellent record in recent years and the confidence of success shows in their performances. Their batting is well-settled, the bowling has variety and bite to it, and the fielding is always top-notch.

The conditions at the Hagley Oval are also expected to be more bowler-friendly than before and that may end up being a huge relief as well.

New Zealand Playing 11

TWM Latham, Tom Blundell, KS Williamson, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling, Daryl Mitchell, Kyle Jamieson, TG Southee, Matt Henry, Trent Boult.

Pakistan

Pakistan is going to waiting on the fitness of Babar Azam and Imam ul Haq ahead of this match. There is no concrete news yet but it looks like Babar Azam may be fit for the second match. That is going to be a huge boost for Pakistan as it searches for solidity in the top-order.

If Babar Azam does come back then it is going to be Haris Sohail that misses out.

Shan Masood and Abid Ali had a terrible opening match but New Zealand can be very unforgiving for the openers. They need to back their skills a bit more and play with freedom. With Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan in good form, the Pakistani batting should be able t give a better fight to New Zealand in this match.

We don’t think there is going to be any change in the bowling attack. Sheen Afridi was the best of the lot by a fair margin but this may be the match where Mohammad Abbas finds his best form.

Naseem Shah is young but it is a bit concerning that he has lost that extra yard of pace that he used to bowl with. It may just be a rhythm thing and so expect him to be at full tilt after getting a few early wickets.

Yasir Shah and Faheem Ashraf were passable without being exceptional with the ball although Ashraf’s valuable contribution with the bat makes him a sure selection for this next match.

Pakistan Playing 11

Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, Zafar Gohar, Mohammad Abbas, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah.

NZ vs PAK Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. We thin the Hagley Oval is going to offer that little bit of extra movement up front that will give an advantage to the team that bowls first.

Pitch and Conditions

Expect a lot of grass on the surface for this match but that can be misleading. We have seen pitches that look completely green in color be placid and great to bat on. Hopefully, that will not be the case in this match.

The batsmen will enjoy batting after the initial shine of the ball wears away and so this could be another match that goes deep into the fifth day.

There is no rain forecast for the duration of this match and so there is every chance of a result being achieved.

NZ vs PAK Betting Tips

We think New Zealand is the team to back in this contest. Not only does it have more on the line but it is also very hard to beat in home conditions. It has been ten years since it lost a match to an Asian country in home conditions.

It has a better batting lineup by far and its bowling attack is also very skillful at getting the most out of whatever movement is on offer.

Bet on New Zealand to win.
