NZ vs PAK Match Prediction - Oct 08, 2022

New Zealand will play its first match of the tri-series as it takes on Pakistan. There are no real breaks in this series and teams will be playing back-to-back games. Pakistan just recorded a solid win over Bangladesh and will go once more, less than 24 hours later.

The cricket betting sites have New Zealand as the slight favorite. We think that is largely because of the fact that New Zealand is playing in home conditions and does not have any major injuries to worry about in its bowling unit.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for New Zealand vs Pakistan Tri-Series 2022. The match will be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch on the 8th of October 2022.

NZ vs PAK Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand will be at full strength apart from Daryl Mitchell, who was ruled out with a fractured finger and is highly doubtful for the T20 World Cup either. In his absence, we think New Zealand is going to start with Martin Guptill and Finn Allen at the top followed by Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Glenn Phillips in the middle order.

There is a lot of flexibility and expect New Zealand to change batting positions depending on match-ups.

Jimmy Neesham is certain to find a place in the middle order as the all-rounder with Mitchell Santner at number 7.

New Zealand's bowling attack is quite formidable and will likely feature Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, and Tim Southee with Ish Sodhi as the leg-spin option.

This is a very strong bowling unit but keep in mind that New Zealand may opt to rotate its players as it builds up to the T20 World Cup.

New Zealand Playing 11

Devon Conway, Finn Allen, KS Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Michael Bracewell, Ish Sodhi, TG Southee, Trent Boult, Blair Tickner.

Pakistan

Pakistan won its match against Bangladesh, but a few questions will be raised about its batting effort. Mohammad Rizwan bailed the team out once more with his 6th fifty in 8 matches. The man is just unbelievably consistent in this format and has been for quite some time now.

Babar Azam took his time in the powerplay but got out before he could capitalize. Shan Masood also played some positive shots, but the lack of runs from the middle order will add to Pakistan's troubles. There will be a day when Pakistan's openers fail together and Pakistan could really struggle to compete.

Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah did not play the match against Bangladesh. Haris Rauf, Mohammad Wasim, and Shahnawaz Dahani did the job quite well. They were also excellently supported by Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

NZ vs PAK Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. We don't think that is a huge advantage as the pitch is unlikely to change over the course of a match.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions were cold but dry. The same is expected for the second match as well. The pitch at the Hagley Oval was not as fast as it usually is. There was some extra bounce and the large outfield made hitting boundaries tougher as well. 160-170 seems like a par score at the venue. Two strong bowling attacks could make this a lower-scoring match than you are used to.

NZ vs PAK Betting Tips

We are going to back New Zealand to win this match. If you compare the two teams, we don't think there is a lot of difference between them and that is represented in the odds as well. However, New Zealand has more batters that are adept at playing at a higher strike rate and the fact that New Zealand is playing in home conditions cannot be discounted either.

Bet on New Zealand to win.

Pakistan's slow run-rate at the start is a style of play that it cannot move away from easily. We have also seen that the Hagley Oval is not going to be the easiest to attack. We like the Over/Under line being offered. Worth a punt.
