NZ vs RSA Match Prediction - Oct 17, 2022

New Zealand and South Africa will play the first of their official warm-up matches against each other. These matches are often given a bit more importance than is necessary. Winning is good but the main aim of the teams is to try out their best combinations and give players lacking some game time a run.

NZ vs RSA Team Previews

New Zealand

New Zealand has been playing a lot of T20 cricket. It lost the Tri-Series Final to Pakistan but it seemed to be getting into a good rhythm. New Zealand never really played its best bowling attack during that series, though, and it will be very interesting to see which direction they go in for this match.

Ideally, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson should all play with Mitch Santner, Glenn Phillips, and Jimmy Neesham as the all-rounders. Michael Bracewell has been the most economical bowler for New Zealand this season and he could push Ish Sodhi for a place in the eleven.

New Zealand's batting is superb but not having Daryl Mitchell takes away a bit of power from the top. Finn Allen and Devon Conway will probably get the first shot at opening the batting with Kane Williamson coming in at number three.
South Africa

South Africa lost its T20 series against India 2-1 but the conditions in Australia are dramatically different. In a lot of ways, we think South Africa will find playing in Australia similar to home. The grounds are a bit bigger but the style of T20 cricket is similar and the players are used to the bounce that they will encounter.

Players like Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Rilee Rossouw should be able to the most of the good batting conditions expected. Temba Bavuma is the captain and so will play in the lineup but his presence is perhaps the single biggest disadvantage to the team. He is just not the same quality as the rest of the players and has been in terrible form leading up to the T20 World Cup.

Tristan Stubbs is a young power-hitter that can cause some real damage if he gets in. he is another player to watch.
We do think the South Africa bowling attack could cause some real challenges to the teams it comes up against. Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, and Wayne Parnell are all excellent. If they hit their stride, they can easily defeat any team that they come up against.

NZ vs RSA Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss should want to bat first. That will give the teams good exposure and allow them to test themselves before the main event starts.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for match day is quite good and we should not have many interruptions. The pitch at the Allan Border field is generally very flat. There are a lot of runs to be had. The pitch can have a bit of extra bounce, similar to the Gabba, but the small outfield may actually play into the hands of the batters.

NZ vs RSA Betting Tips

We are going to back South Africa to win this match. There are a couple of reasons for that. Not only do we think that the South African players are likely to enjoy the conditions in Australia, but we also think they will probably play their best eleven for this match. New Zealand may continue to rest a couple of its bowlers.

Bet on South Africa to win.
