The first test match between New Zealand the West Indies ended with a convincing and comprehensive won for the home side. That was not an unexpected result and most things went to plan.
New Zealand batted well against some testing bowling from Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel before the West Indian batting capitulated. Twice. No surprises at all.
Now, as we move on to the second test match, the West Indian team needs to pull a rabbit out of the hat because the odds are stacked against it. Can we find some betting opportunities in this contest? Let us try.
New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd Test Match 2020 is going to be played at the Basin Reserve, Wellington starting on the 11th of December 2020.
Kane Williamson batted brilliantly and in some pretty challenging conditions to register 251. His defense was solid but he also did not miss out on the scoring opportunities that presented themselves.
Tom Latham also scored 85 and Ross Taylor looked good during his stay at the crease.
We have no doubt that the New Zealand batsmen are going to be able to capitalize on the West Indian bowling once more. Will Young and Henry Nicholls did not get many runs but we think both of them could join the party in this match.
The batting depth and the quality in the New Zealand side are far beyond what the West Indies has.
The bowling for New Zealand was brilliant. Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, and all of the others had a good match. Boult may not have picked the number of wickets that he would have liked but he was probing in every spell.
Wagner, though, has a very happy knack for picking up test wickets and should continue to be the lead bowler for New Zealand in this match as well. With New Zealand catching up to England in the World Test Championship, we don’t think there is going to be any experimentation in their selection policy.
New Zealand should play with its strongest available eleven.
TWM Latham, Tom Blundell, Will Young, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling, Daryl Mitchell, Kyle Jamieson, TG Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult.
To say West Indies was outplayed in the previous match is an understatement. In fact, we would even say that the West Indies was barely even playing the same sport as New Zealand such was the difference between the two teams.
With a short turnaround and most of the conditions the same, there is not much that the West Indies can change.
It has the same set of batsmen and bowlers but most hope for a drastically different performance. Let us give them the benefit of doubt for one second. Maybe they had a bad game and are all going to be at their best in the next game.
Even then we cannot see the West Indies batsmen being able to avoid defeat in this match. It appears as if the only way the West Indies can hope to make this contest competitive is by having a great bowling outing.
Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel have to run through the top-order with help from Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder to polish off the rest.
While this is a best-case scenario, we sure as hell are not going to be betting on it.
Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Darren Bravo, Jermaine Blackwood, Shamarh Brooks, Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Joshua De Silva, Alzarri Joseph, Chemar Holder, Shannon Gabriel.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. New Zealand pitches play a lot better than they look and the only reason to bowl first would be insecurity in your own batting lineup.

There is some rain expected but the forecast is good for the major part of the test match. There is going to be a lot of grass left on the pitch but that is not always reflected in the manner in which the surface behaves. There are going to be periods of play where batting is difficult but for those who play sensibly, there are going to be loads of runs on offer.
We have no hesitation in backing New Zealand to win this match as well. It is so much superior to the West Indies in Test cricket that the contest does not even appear fair. Another inning defeat could be on the cards for the West Indies.
Bet on New Zealand to win.
