Jess Kerr bowled an excellent spell of 4-23 in her 10 overs and was the pick of the bowlers. The fielding too was excellent, with Lauren Down effecting 2 run-outs.
The batting was off to a decent start, as Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates put up a 50-run opening stand. However, New Zealand lost Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr on consecutive deliveries, and Bangladesh looked back into the game. Suzie Bates once again came to the rescue, scoring an unbeaten 93, and was well supported by Maddy Green, with whom she had an unbeaten partnership of 131 runs.
In the end, New Zealand won the match by 8 wickets with 19 overs to spare. Despite omitting Lea Tahuhu, who was excellent with the ball during the T20 series, the New Zealand bowling looks in a good shape thanks to an excellent effort by Jess Kerr, Fran Jones, and Hayley Jensen.
Georgia Plimmer is replacing an injured Brooke Halliday in the ODIs but she hasn’t got a chance to prove her capabilities yet.

Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed, who are the top run-getters for the Bangladeshi Women are having a disappointing outing in New Zealand. Nigar Sultana hit a career-best 73 in the opening loss, but that wasn’t quite enough as wickets fell around her. A lot will depend on her as well as Sharmin Akhter if Bangladesh wants to equalize through this match.
Jahanara Alam was the best among the bowlers in the opening match, cleaning up Devine and Amelia Kerr in consecutive deliveries. The all-rounders, Lata Mondal and Ritu Moni too are going through a trough in form. Overall, Bangladesh Women have been found quite lacking during this tour so far.
