The New Zealand women are going to be hosting the Indian women at the same time as the men’s tournament is also going on. It is going to be an interesting series between two teams that did not do as well in the World Cup as was expected last year. For New Zealand, this is going to be a good opportunity to exact some revenge on India, after they basically knocked them out of the group stages.
India is grappling with some team issues itself. A new coach, controversy between the team’s senior players, and a clear disagreement on the style of play the group wants to adopt are just some of the things that India will be looking to work on in this series.
There have been some major changes in the New Zealand squad after their loss in the World T20. The team was regarded as one of the favorites to win the title but exited the tournament in the group stage itself.
As a result, Maddy Green, Lauren Down, Katie Perkins, Anna Peterson, and Holly Huddleston have all been left out of the T20 squad.
For the first ODI, Amy Satterthwaite is going to be leading the side. She is an experienced captain that has been at the helm of New Zealand women’s cricket for quite some time now. She is a dangerous top-order batter and one of the players to watch out for.
The real stars of this side, though, are Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates. Both the players have been playing the WBBL and so will be in peak playing condition. Both these players are good enough to score centuries in every game that they play.
They will open the batting for New Zealand and look to set up the platform for New Zealand. If the Indian women have to have a chance of winning this series then they need to find a way past these two women.
We would recommend placing a bet on both of them to be the top-scorer in this series because it is a relatively safe bet.
The bowling for New Zealand is pretty good as well. Amelia Kerr is the exciting leg-spinner that should have a big role to play in this series. The Indian women are good against spin but we really hope Kerr is given an attacking role rather than just trying to stop the runs.
Lea Tahuhu is also another bowler to watch out for and one that we are tipping to be the highest wicket taker in this series.
Suzie Bates, Lauren Down, Amy Satterthwaite, Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr, Maddy Green, Bernadine Bezuidenhout, Leigh Kasperek, Hannah Rowe, Holly Huddleston, Lea Tahuhu.
The Indian women come to the shores of New Zealand with a good chance of winning this series. They have a good batting lineup which should thrive on some of the batting beauties they are likely to be offered up on this tour.
We are, of course, referring to the big-3 in this format for Indian women. Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Smriti Mandhana.
Now that Mithali Raj is back in the captain’s chair, it is all but certain that she will be opening the batting alongside Smriti Mandhana. There was a huge uproar in India when Mandhana was left out of the semi-final of the World T20 which Indian ended up losing to England.
That controversy has led to the sacking of the coach and some airing of personal grievances. It is not possible that a thing like does not affect the morale of the team.
This is why the first ODI is going to be very interesting to see. India needs its senior players to be on the same side if they are to have any chance of winning. We believe that a bet on two of the big-3, possible Kaur and Mandhana, to be the highest scorer for India in this match and series is a good call.
Mandhana loves the ODI format and gets the best chance of scoring runs from the top of the order. Kaur is possibly the most powerful player in women's cricket right now and her clean striking ability always make her a threat.
India’s bowling is going to be bolstered by the return of the experienced Jhulan Goswami but the main work will still have to be done by the spinners. Poonam Yadav has been a prolific wicket-taker for Indian ever since she has made her debut and she is our pick to be the top wicket-taker.
Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur, Taniya Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Dayalan Hemalatha, Shikha Pandey, Jhulan Goswami, Ekta Bisht, Poonam Yadav.
The side winning the toss is likely to want to bat first

The New Zealand women vs India women first ODI is going to be played at Napier. The conditions in Napier are expected to worsen a bit from previous days and some rain has been predicted for the match. We may see a rain-interrupted match which can make things quite tricky.
The pitch in Napier is usually excellent for batting and that is what we are hoping to see.
New Zealand women have won the last three matches against Indian women but these matches come over a very long span of time. A lot has changed for both sides and we think this is going to be a pretty even contest. India has the batting and the spinners to pull off an upset.
Back India women to win.
