NZW vs RSAW Match Prediction - Feb 13, 2020

New Zealand women lead the T20 series 3-1 and have wrapped up the T20 series. South Africa had managed to keep the series alive with a fantastic win but there is nothing much to play for in this last match of its tour to New Zealand.

The women’s T20 World Cup is around the corner and that means both the teams will be keen to keep finalizing its plans and personnel. South Africa has a lot of work ahead of it before it can consider itself ready to play the premier tournament in women’s cricket. New Zealand, on the other hand, may want to change things up and take some pressure off of Sophie Devine.

New Zealand women vs South Africa women 5th T20 2020 is going to be played at the University Oval, Dunedin on the 13th of February 2020.

NZW vs RSAW Team Previews

New Zealand Women

Sophie Devine is having her best year of cricket and is perhaps the best player in the world right now. She continued her consistency with the bat with a century to lead New Zealand women to 171 in the previous match.

We have no doubt that Devine is going to be keen to get on the park once more to make the most of this incredible run she is on. The team management may think differently, though, and could choose to rest its best player for a dead rubber.

Suzie Bates scored 47 to contribute to the win while none of the other batters had any role to play. New Zealand would love to give players like Lauren Down, Maddy Green, Amelia Kerr, and Katey Martin more of a role in this last match because they don’t want to be completely dependent on just one player all the time.

Jess Kerr and Anna Peterson had a very good outing with the ball. They shared five wickets among them and were quite stingy with the runs. Most of the New Zealand bowlers managed to come away with good figures in the previous match.

The presence of Sophie Devine, Amelia Kerr, Hayley Jensen, Jolly Huddleston, and Rosemary Mair gives New Zealand a lot of depth in the bowling department as well.

South Africa Women

The South Africa women’s team has tried very hard on this tour and tasted a decent amount of success as well. It may seem like ages ago but the South African team managed to blank out New Zealand in the ODI’s.

Chloe Tyuron’s heroics with the bat also ensured that South Africa kept the T20 series alive till the previous match of the series. There are some major faults to be addressed with the South African women’s team, though.

We don’t think there are enough players coming through the pipeline to push the incumbents. Lizelle Lee, Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus, Dane van Niekerk, Mignon du Preez, and Chloe Tyron are all pretty experienced now.

They have been playing together for a long time but the consistency in their performances is just not there. Lizelle Lee plays one good inning in ten and then coasts. The middle-order is not decisive enough to win games for its side and too much is left for the lower-order to do.

Yes, South Africa was up against the best player in women’s cricket right now but they seemed short of ideas.

The game is moving at a fast pace and South Africa needs to change as well.

There is a bit more positivity around the bowling attack. We like Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, and Sune Luus very much. Dane Van Niekerk brings a lot of experience to the side as well and there are a couple of promising players coming through too.

South Africa women’s cricket team needs to be brave and make its senior players a bit uncomfortable because it looks as if they are not worried about losing at the moment.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for match day in Dunedin is pretty good. The area has been experiencing some rainfall but the forecast for match-day is much better. We expect the pitch at the University Oval to be very good for batting. This is a fresh pitch being used for the first time in this series and is going to be well-prepared.

Expect a lot of runs and not too much in it for the bowlers.

A score of about 160 can be considered the least teams would aim for batting first.

NZW vs RSAW Betting Tips

We think New Zealand has enough in its squad to be able to win even if Sophie Devine decides to take a backseat. The Kiwi skipper has not done such a thing in the past so don’t be surprised to see her stride out to open the batting as usual! New Zealand has better batting depth, a competent bowling attack, and the advantage of paying in home conditions.

Bet on New Zealand women to win.
