Otago will come face to face with Sunrisers on 20th Sep in the 6th Qualifier of the CLT20. Both teams have already qualified for the group stage with 8 points each. Sunrisers lead on the points table by a better NRR of +1.097, whereas Otago comes second with a NRR of +1.019. The teams have played exceptionally well so far scoring back to back wins against their opponents in the two qualifiers that they each played. Though this not a crucial match for either teams, it will definitely be a good contest, providing sufficient entertainment to the Mohali cricket enthusiasts.
Sunrisers are standing tall at this stage, having qualified for the group stage
with 8 points. Shikhar Dhawan and his men annihilated the Faisalabad Wolves yesterday, restricting them to a meagre 127 runs. The bowlers attacked as a disciplined unit with all except Steyn taking a wicket each at regular intervals. Shikhar’s second half-century in two matches shows his great strength of character and leads from the front. He and Parthiv Patel added 68 runs, making the contest one-sided in the second half. His 44 run partnership with Duminy ensured a comfortable win again. Youngsters Mishra and Karan Sharma show lot of potential and will definitely do well here. Experienced players like Ishant, Sammy, Steyn and Perera and the strong batting line up will make this team a tough one to beat.
Ryan ten Doeschate was the hero of the match against Kandurata as the team displayed a splendid innings in the 154 run chase, set by the opponents. He repeated his excellent performance, scoring 64 runs from 32 balls and also taking 2 wickets. Dilhara had made early inroads into the Otago top order; however, the superb knock by Doeschate, with 5 sixes and 2 fours anchored the team to an emphatic win. Neesham supported him well with a quick 32 off 19 balls. Brendan McCullum, unfortunately fell prey to Dilhara’s excellent spell, unable to contribute as against the previous match where his excellent knock had won them the match. The tight bowling unit of fast bowlers displayed their skills with Butler taking 3 wickets; McMillan, Wagner and Neesham being awarded a wicket each. This is a formidable team with good combination of talents and looks strong going into this match.
Both teams are equally matched in terms of player skills and experience. Although they have already qualified for the group stage with equal points of 8 but a slight difference in NRR, this match is sure to provide the necessary fireworks with players like Doeschate, McCullum, Shikhar and Patel in very good form. The bowlers of each team have varying options and will try their best to come up trumps. It’ll be interesting to see which side wins the match on 20th. Otago will provide stiff competition; however, the Sunrisers who are already riding high on energy will emerge victorious in the end.
