OV vs AA Match Prediction - Mar 12, 2023

We are moving into the second half of the Plunket Shield 2022-23 season and most teams would want to gear-up and do the best they can in the matches going forward. While some teams are reigning high on the ladder, the other teams are fighting for their survival in the tournament. Up next, we have Otago set to take on Auckland, who both have done too well in the tournament so far. On March 13th, the 21st match of the Plunket Shield 2022-23 will take place at Molyneux Park in Alexandra, where the Otago Volts will face off against the Auckland Aces.

OV vs AA Team Previews

Otago Volts

The Volts currently hold the 5th position on the table, which is one place above Auckland. A decisive victory in their upcoming game could propel either team up the tightly contested middle section of the table. However, defeating the top-ranked Canterbury team would require a remarkable performance.

In their previous encounter during round one, the Volts emerged victorious over their opponent. However, a considerable amount of time has elapsed since October, and tomorrow's Plunket Shield match is expected to be a closely contested battle between two strong teams.

During their previous match, Otago faced off against Canterbury, who won the toss and opted to bat first. Although Canterbury lost their first wicket inexpensively, a solid partnership for the second wicket helped them build a substantial total. Bowes played exceptionally well, smashing a century, enabling Canterbury to declare their innings at 449 for the loss of nine wickets.

In response, Otago struggled to match Canterbury's score, with none of their batters capitalizing on their starts. Eventually, they were bowled out for a meager 256 runs. In the second innings, Canterbury's batting performance was impressive as they declared their innings at 277 runs for the loss of three wickets. This set a daunting target of 471 runs for Otago, who could only muster 304 runs in reply, resulting in a drawn match.

Auckland Aces

Despite the match ending in a draw against Wellington, the ACES are optimistic about their players' improved performance. They are now preparing to face the Otago Volts in the seventh round of the Plunket Shield at Molyneux Park in Alexandra.

During the match against the Firebirds, the ACES were in control for three out of four days. Their impressive batting lineup saw Sean Solia and Mark Chapman both score centuries, while Will O'Donnell and newcomer Quinn Sunde hit fifties.

Furthermore, the ACES' bowlers looked threatening at times, despite the pitch offering little support.

t's worth noting that the ACES have played only five first-class matches this season, which is one less than the other teams (except Central Districts). However, they'll be facing Central Districts in a rescheduled round five match in early April.

Although the ACES will miss the formidable pace of Lockie Ferguson, who is preparing for the IPL, they will benefit from the addition of Louis Delport, a skilled left-arm orthodox bowler. Delport recently took seven wickets for Auckland A in Hamilton, making his inclusion in the team a sensible choice.

It's not surprising that Delport has been included, as he was instrumental in the ACES' previous encounter with Central Districts at Molyneux Park, where he claimed six wickets, and Will Somerville took seven. With the added inclusion of Adi Ashok, the ACES are focusing on a spin-first approach in Alexandra, which is one of the driest cities in New Zealand.

OV vs AA Toss Prediction

In general, teams would prefer to bat first at this venue, as the pitch tends to deteriorate over time. Having said that, early advantage to the quicker bowler might play a huge role at the toss. Considering all that and other factors stated, the captain winning the toss should elect to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

Molyneux Park in Alexandra is known for its pitch that is typically more favorable towards batters. However, the pacers will still have a good time playing here due to the pitch's double-paced nature. They can take advantage of the swing and bounce and pose a challenge to the batters. Once the batters get used to the conditions, they can confidently play their shots. The average first innings score at this ground is around 309, which is something teams might want to keep in mind when making their strategy.

OV vs AA Betting Tips

This is an important match for both sides and we expect them both to come out all guns blazing. Otago Volts have been poor in the tournament and while Auckland Aces haven't been the best either, they have done just enough to keep them hanging. Considering that and the other factors stated above, a bet on Auckland Aces win should be the way to go.
