OV vs CS Match Prediction - Nov 28, 2021

Super Smash 2021 started with a bang as Wellington Firebirds, the defending champions, defeated Canterbury Kings in an anticlimactic one-sided encounter. These are early days in the tournament and all sides would want to gain early advantage by racking up points on the board before New Zealand internationals return from their India tour to be part of the competition.

Up next in the competition, Otago Volts are all set to take on Central Districts. This upcoming match is set to be played at the University Oval, Dunedin on 28th November 2021

OV vs CS Team Previews

Otago Volts

Otago Volts were the worst-performing side last season and will be desperate to not end up at the bottom of the points table once again. Getting off to a decent start will be important as a string of early losses can quickly derail the campaign of any side. Last year, Otago Volts were able to win only two matches from a total of ten played and lost eight. They also ended up as the team with the worst net run rate amongst all sides.

In this season, Otago Volts have looked good in the Plunket Shield and although that is a different format, they would like to replicate their performances in the shortest version of the game. One thing that works to their advantage is that they will have almost all of their players to play in the tournament right from the very first match.

The likes of Hamish Rutherford and Neil Broom will hold the key for the Volts considering that they do not have too many experienced players who can play the power-hitter role. Having said that, they do have many youngsters who have exhibited their skills in the other domestic competitions and they will be raring to go. All in all, the Volts have a good side, but they will need to play out of their skins to get off to a good start. If they can do that, Central Stags will certainly have their work cut out.

Otago Volts Playing 11

Hamish Rutherford, Nick Kelly, Jacob Duffy, Anaru Kitchen, MJ Rippon, Dale Phillips, Matthew Bacon, Max Chu, NT Broom, Jake Gibson, Joshua Finnie.

Central Districts

Central Stags were one of the best sides of the competition last year and will certainly consider themselves to be unlucky given that they missed out on a spot in the final despite ending up on the second spot on the ladder. Their batting did a decent job in the tournament and in the qualifying-final, but Canterbury Kings just managed to trump them to progress.

In the group stage last year, Central Stags won six matches and lost four, but what drew most attention was their net run rate of 0.587, which still proves how dominant they were in the group stage.

Led by Tom Bruce, Central Districts will certainly have a few players missing owing to their other commitments. Ajaz Patel and Will Young are away playing Tests against India and Adam Milne might have been ordered to rest after having a long T20 season. Even with those players absent, Central Stags have a good amount of experience available to take on any given side on their day.

On paper, the Central Stags have the likes of Dane Cleaver, George Worker, Doug Bracewell, Kieran Noema Barnett, and Blair Tickner who all can be match-winners on their day. They just need to get their execution right in this upcoming match and if they are able to do that, it should be a walk in the park for them.

Christian Leopard, Greg Hay, Bayley Wiggins, Dane Cleaver, Ben Smith, Tom Bruce, Doug Bracewell, Ben Wheeler, Jayden Lennox, Blair Tickner, Seth Rance.

OV vs CS Betting Tips

These are early days in the tournament and while sides can bounce back even after getting off to poor starts, no side would want to take that route. Otago Volts had a poor run last year and will be confident of taking cues from their red-ball form and getting off to a winning start. Also, Central Stags will be missing a few of their key players and that certainly adds to the Volts' advantage. Considering that Otago Volts have a realistic chance here and odds on offer for their win, we would be placing our bets on Otago Volts win and so should you.
