OV vs NK Match Prediction - Apr 02, 2021

The fate of Plunkett Shield may already be decided with Canterbury Kings set to top the charts, but the competition in the middle part of the points table couldn't have been more intense. Four teams have the total number of points in the fifties and they all would want to register wins in their respective matches. Northern Knights and Otago Volts will be taking on each other in the upcoming match and the winner will likely finish at the second spot provided either of Auckland Aces or Central Stags do not win their respective matches. This match between the Knights and the Volts is to be played at University Oval, Dunedin from 3rd April.

OV vs NK Team Previews

Otago Volts

Up until the last match, Otago Volts seemed to be having a dreadful time in the season. They looked dismal in the shortest format of the game and were languishing in the lower half of the ladder for most of the Plunkett Shield. A decent win over Central Stags has pushed them to the second spot and another win here is what the Volts will be aiming for.

Otago's record in the tournament is not too different from the teams below them on the points table. However, one thing that they have done better than the rest of the teams is that they have closed the crunch situations successfully more often than not. It happened in the last game too as Volts defeated Central Stags in a closely fought match.

On paper, Otago Volts have a decent batting unit with the likes of Anaru Kitchen, Hamish Rutherford, Michael Rippon, and Nick Kelly available. However, their bowling is a little too inexperienced and is prone to break under pressure. If their bowlers are able to do well, the Volts should be in business big time in the upcoming contest.

Northern Knights

Northern Knights are arguably one of the most well-followed teams in New Zealand's domestic cricket, but they are often not available at their full strength. This was the case in most of the Super Smash and the ongoing Plunkett Shield. However, they would not be too disappointed with the way they have done in this tournament so far. In seven matches, the Knights have won two and lost two. They have 52 points to their name, but a successful performance in the upcoming match should be enough to push them higher on the points table. Considering how they did in the last match, they would be feeling pretty fortunate. They were being dominated by Wellington Firebirds before the match was abandoned due to rain. With Bangladesh's tour of New Zealand over, Northern Knights should now have most of their main players available. That will imbibe strength to their side, which hasn't done as well in the last two matches. If the majority of the Knights' players are able to play to their potential, they should have an easy time in the middle.

OV vs NK Betting Tips

This is one of the last three matches of the tournament and both sides will want to end the tournament on a happy note. The result of this match will likely dictate the occupant of the second spot on the ladder and both sides are expected to come hard to grab that lone spot. While the two sides have identical performance statistics for the tournament, the Knights have a better-balanced team with experience available throughout. Considering that this could turn out to be a high-pressure match and experience could play a key role, banking on the Knight's win should be the way to go here.
