The first T20 between Pakistan and Sri Lanka ended in a victory for the home team. It was a strange kind of T20 where both teams did not take many risks and seemed to be more worried about making mistakes. Winning the first match of a three-match series puts the pressure on the other side immediately.
Bangladesh has to try and win both the next two matches if it wants to try and win the series. We are hoping to see more of a fight and some initiative from Bangladesh in this next game. Pakistan too will want an improved performance as it tries desperately to keep its top ranking in the T20 format of the game.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on the 25th of January 2020.
Pakistan had made some bold selection choices ahead of the T20 series and opted to try a new set of players after suffering its worst every year in T20 cricket. The move seems to have paid off as Shoaib Malik shepherded the side to victory with the bat and Haris Rauf showed a lot of promise with the ball.
The bowling effort from Pakistan was very good overall. None of the bowlers were particularly expensive and always kept a tight leash on the Bangladeshi batsmen. Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim were right on the money and kept the pressure tight.
Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf provide some genuine pace-bowling options to Pakistan as well.
The batting effort was okay but there was a lot of room for improvement. Babar Azam had a rare failure while Ahsan Ali and Mohammad Hafeez failed to capitalize on their starts. Iftikhar Ahmed was also guilty of the same thing but he seemed to be trying to push the game along at least.
Shoaib Malik made use of his immense experience of playing T20 cricket around the world and aced the chase brilliantly. The Pakistani batting lineup is a bit suspect but is not likely to be challenged too much by the Bangladeshi bowling attack.
Ahsan Ali, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, SI Wasim, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf.
Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Naim set the stage for a late-overs assault for Bangladesh but that never materialized. Not only did both the batsmen get out after eating up a fair chunk of the overs but the late-order players also could not get going.
It was strange to see Bangladesh play in its shell so much and this is where the lack of senior players like Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim plays a big role. The Bangladeshi batting is pretty long and they must take more of an initiative in the initial overs otherwise the Pakistani bowlers will continue to dominate them.
Liton Das, Mahmudullah, Atif Hossain, and Soumya Sarkar are all quite food batsmen. They have also had a fair bit of success in the Bangladesh Premier League recently. They need to be given more of a chance and not be put under pressure by the openers.
The bowling for Bangladesh remains a big concern in every match they play. Mustafizur Rahman has been picking up buckets of wickets in the BPL but could not translate that into an international return to form. He is the spearhead of the Bangladesh bowling attack and needs to find his best rhythm soon.
Shaiful Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, and AMinul Islam were tidy with their bowling but that was also because the Pakistani batsmen were not applying any real pressure.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

The weather forecast for Lahore is pretty good for match day and we should have another uninterrupted match to enjoy. The pitch at the Gaddafi Stadium was a bit on the slower side which made run-scoring difficult. Hopefully, the batsmen would have got an idea of the surface and would be able to play more attacking cricket in this match.
A score of around 150-160 seems to be very competitive at this venue.
Pakistan is the favorite for this match as well, there is no doubt about that. Not only does it have a very good record against Bangladesh, but it is also playing at home and has won the first match convincingly. We think, however, it may be worth taking the risk on Bangladesh in this match.
The Bangladesh batting is better than what it showed in the first match and can put Pakistan under pressure. We are also not very convinced about this new-look Pakistan team’s batting prowess.
Bet on Bangladesh to win.
