PAK vs ENG Match Prediction - Dec 01, 2022

The England Men’s cricket team is all set to resume its tour to Pakistan, as both teams play the first of a three-test match series which begins on Thursday.

Both the teams were last seen facing each other in the recently concluded T20 World Cup Finals, where England beat Pakistan by 5 wickets to lift their 2nd T20 title. However, according to most cricket betting sites, Pakistan holds a slight edge in the upcoming match, and the odds on offer for a home win are shorter compared to that of an away win.

PAK vs ENG Team Previews

Pakistan

Pakistan lost the T20 series against England, played just before the T20 World Cup, by a 4-3 margin and most of the cricket pundits had written them off after a dismal start to the World Cup. However, the team staged a spirited comeback to make it through to the finals. Going into this match, Pakistan will be pretty high on confidence.

Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique will be the key players for Pakistan as far as the batting is concerned. Both have had an excellent year as far as test matches are concerned. Babar Azam has scored 661 runs in 9 innings, while Shafique has 586 runs against his name. Imam ul Haq to has scored 2 centuries this year.

Mohammed Rizwan hasn’t been as effective as he is in the limited over matches but he can still play an important role.

Pakistan fans will be hugely disappointed by the fact that Shaheen Afridi, the premium pacer for all three formats, will be missing this series due to a knee injury. In his absence, the young Naseem Shah will be the mainstay of Pakistan’s bowling line-up and will be supported by Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr., both of whom will be making their test debuts.

Other uncapped players in the 18-man squad include Abrar Ahmed, Zahid Mehmood, and Mohammad Ali.

England

England has become the first team to hold both, the ODI as well as the T20 World Titles at the same time, and now, they will be looking to move up the test ladder.

Jonny Bairstow, who suffered a freak injury before the World Cup, will miss out on this series too. In his absence, the team will be heavily dependent on Joe Root and Ben Stokes. Root is currently the top-ranked test batsman in the world, with 5 centuries and a total of 973 runs in 2022.

Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett could open the batting for England in this game. Liam Livingstone, who has been in great form in the limited overs, has been included in the squad, along with young all-rounder Rehan Ahmed and Will Jacks.

England’s bowling too has taken a big blow, as Stuart Broad is giving this series a miss, while Mark Wood will be sitting out of the first match due to a hip injury. Veteran pacer James Anderson will be the key bowler for England, along with Jack Leach.

PAK vs ENG Toss Prediction

Going by the records, the captain winning the toss would likely opt to bowl first on this ground.

Pitch and Conditions

The ground at Rawalpindi is a batter’s paradise as there is hardly any grass on the pitch. So skewed it is in the favor of the batsmen that it was awarded a demerit point and deemed `below average´ by the ICC after the latest game played here between Pakistan and Australia. However, the PCB claims to have made amends, and we can expect a more even contest between the bat and the ball.

The weather is expected to be mostly clear with no chance of rain. The temperature will hover between 20 to 25 degrees Celsius.

PAK vs ENG Betting Tips

We are predicting a win for Pakistan here. They are much better suited to the conditions and will be in better knowledge about how the pitch will play. Also, England will be playing its first test on Pakistan soil after almost 17 years, and none of the players have played white ball cricket here.

Bet on a Pakistan win.

Abdullah Shafique has been in sublime form this year, having scored 586 runs from 10 innings. He has 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries against his name and has been scoring at an average of more than 73. The pitch at Rawalpindi is excellent to bat on, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he goes on to get a huge score.
