South Africa’s Tour of Pakistan is historic and the first test match lived up to the billing. We saw a great contest where both teams played some terrific cricket but in the end, the spin prowess of the home team was just too good.
Pakistan defeated South Africa in a test match for the first time since 2013, that win came in the UAE, and South Africa continues to be winless in Asian conditions since 2014. This is also a great chance for Pakistan to add a series win against South Africa. Pakistan has only ever won one series against South Africa, way back in 2003.
South Africa has actually won two out of the previous three series played against Pakistan in Pakistan. A win here would let it escape with a draw and continue its fantastic record in the country.
The action is going to shift to Rawalpindi now, a venue where the fast bowlers have their say. Early reports suggest there is going to be little to no grass left on the surface to try and negate any help that the visitors can extract.
Pakistan vs South Africa 2nd Test Match 2021 is going to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi starting from the 4th February 2021.
Pakistan came out looking like a better team than it actually is in the previous match. That is the brutal truth. It was gifted wickets by the South Africans on the opening day and then the top-order collapsed to leave it at 33 for 4.
Being gifted wickets is not Pakistan’s fault but it is important to remember that such things are not going to happen every day.
Going into this next match, the two spinners are going to be crucial. They picked up 14 wickets between them in the first match and if conditions allow, both of them will be the first names on the sheet.
The head coach has publicly asked for a dry wicket and we are sure the Pakistani curator is going to comply!
Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Faheem Ashraf are a dangerous bowling trio. Afridi is the standout of course but Hasan Ali is also coming off a great domestic season and Faheem Ashraf is an effective third bowler.
The real challenge is going to be on the batting front. Three out of the top-4 (including Babar Azam) failed in both innings. Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, and Faheem Ashraf were the best batsmen in the first match.
Pakistan must try and get more contributions from its top-order otherwise the bouncy conditions in Rawalpindi could be difficult to face for the lower-order.
Pakistan has a lot going for it but there are some clear weaknesses that can be exploited.
Imran Butt, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Nauman Ali, Yasir Shah, Shaheen Afridi.
If there is one surface where the South Africans have a chance of winning then it is at Rawalpindi. This is the Northern part of Pakistan where the temperature is cooler and the surface is always faster than any other place in the subcontinent.
Teams can get away with playing just one spinner and keep three fast bowlers. That is a configuration that the South Africans are comfortable playing.
The surface may not live up to all these expectations as the grass will be shorn off, however, the underlying nature of the surface and the weather conditions remain the same.
South Africa’s fast bowling contingent is as good if not better than Pakistan’s. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje can make a real impact on the outcome of the match. Even Lungi Ngidi can be more effective in such conditions.
If, however, it appears as if the surface is going to be very spin-friendly and dry then Tabraiz Shamsi is sure to play. His name was penciled in for the previous match as well but he had back spasms that prevented him from starting.
Tabriz Shamsi may end up being expensive but he could ask some different questions of the Pakistani batting.
The game, though, is going to be won or lost by the batting. Aiden Markram showed the way in the second inning and van der Dussen also played very well. Now, the others including Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, and Dean Elgar need to contribute.
The game is essentially about scoring the most runs possible in the first inning to minimize the possibility of losing.
South Africa has had a tough time in cricket over the last year or so and this tour seems to be going badly as well. A win here is going to be very important for it to boost its morale.
Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, George Linde, Kagiso Rabada, K Maharaj, Anrich Nortje.
Winning the toss is going to be a big advantage. We think the team that wins the toss is going to bat first no matter what the surface looks like. Batting fourth in Rawalpindi is not going to be easy.

There is no rain forecast for the match and so we should get uninterrupted action every day. The pitch is going to be watched very closely. Early indications are that surface is going to be drier than usual and without any grass on top of it. That is going to play into the hands of the Pakistani’s but trying to drastically alter the conditions can lead to uneven bounce and rapid deterioration as well.
Pakistan may well regret its decision if it loses the toss.
We think the difference between the two sides is not as big as it appeared to be in the first match. Yes, Pakistan is the favorite but that is to be expected. South Africa has a very good chance of winning this match in our opinion. It has the batting and it definitely has the bowling to be able to give Pakistan a run for its money.
If you are willing to take a little bit of risk for some fairly attractive rewards then we advise betting on South Africa.

We would take Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram over Abid Ali and Imran Butt any day. Especially on a seaming wicket where the fast bowlers could have some say in the first hour with the new ball. Worth the risk for sure.
Any Player to Score A Century in the First Inning - No ($2.30)

This is a risky bet but one that could be very fruitful for the person that takes the plunge. Rawalpindi is going to be a bowler’s surface and while the possibility of a batsman surviving to get a big score is always there, that big score may not necessarily be three figures in this match.
