Pakistan vs South Africa ICC World Cup 2019 was supposed to be one of the big matches of this tournament but it looks like this contest is going to have no bearing on the overall result. Pakistan has won just one match out of its five while South Africa has won one out of its six.
Both the teams are almost certainly out of the race for a semi-final berth unless something truly disastrous happens to one of the top-4 teams.
That does not mean there is nothing to play for. Both South Africa and Pakistan are proud cricketing nations that are hurting due to their poor performances. The teams are receiving a lot of criticism from their fans and some players may be playing for their careers.
Both South Africa and Pakistan have some players that are at the end of their careers and a couple of them may well have played their last international game.
Pakistan managed to defeat South Africa the last time they played each other in a World Cup. They have also defeated England in this edition of the tournament already while South Africa has just won against Afghanistan.
Pakistan vs South Africa ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at Lord’s, London, on the 23rd of June 2019.
It would have been a week since Pakistan lost its match against India and suffered a tidal wave of criticism. The team would be very keen to get on the ground and start playing some cricket because the only way to shut down this reaction is to start winning again.
Pakistan recently played a series against South Africa where they won two matches and showed that they can compete. They must remember those times and cone into this match with confidence.
The top-order for Pakistan is expected to remain unchanged. Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Hafeez are all good players who have scored some runs in this tournament already. The challenge for them seems to be to go on and get the big scores.
Babar Azam is the best batsman of the Pakistani side and is considered as one of the brightest talents in world cricket. He is the person that has to lead the Pakistani revival.
If he can bat through the inning and get a big score then Pakistan has a chance.
After number 4, though, the problems start for Pakistan.
Sarfaraz Ahmed is not a number 5 batsman, Shoaib Malik is in poor form and almost sure to be dropped, while Imad Wasim at number 7 is also unconvincing. We think Haris Sohail will find a place in the side and bat at number 3 or 4.
The bowling for Pakistan is also a problem. Mohammad Amir is one of the leading wicket-takers in the tournament but not a single Pakistani bowler apart from him has bowled well. Hasan Ali is likely to be dropped in place of Mohammad Hasnain or Shaheen Afridi.
Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim were ineffective against India but could well find a place in the team for this match. That leaves Wahab Riaz to complete the playing eleven.
Imam-ul-Haq, F Zaman, Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfraz Ahmed, Haris Sohail, SI Wasim, Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir.
Another error-filled performance by South Africa against New Zealand ensured that any dreams of a South African comeback were quickly put on hold. Dropped catches, missed run-outs, edges not reviewed, and half-chances that were not converted all allowed New Zealand to chase down a tricky total against South Africa.
Currently, South Africa looks like a side that is tired and confused. It is not able to play the attacking style of cricket that some of the other teams are playing and its experienced players are unable to step up when it matters the most.
We think South Africa has run out of options and will attempt to do the same things that it tried in the previous match. JP Duminy is the only real option that is available to them but he has already been dropped once from the team.
He could be brought into the team for Aiden Markram or David Miller but we are not too sure how much good that will do.
Quinton de Kock is struggling after a decent start to the tournament, Hashim Amla’s ODI career seems to be at its end, and Aiden Markram is struggling to find his feet also.
A lot rests on the shoulders of Faf du Plessis and even though he has looked good for some short innings, he has also been unable to perform to the level that was expected of him. Rassie van der Dussen is perhaps the only bright spark for South Africa. He had an excellent series against Pakistan and maybe sending him up the order might not be a bad idea.
Miller, Phehlukwayo, and Morris are a formidable lower order, at least on paper. Neither of them has been able to clear the boundaries at the end of the inning.
South Africa’s bowling was better in the previous match and that is something to take heart from. Imran Tahir will be tested against the Pakistani players and a lot will rest on the shoulders of Kagiso Rabada.
South Africa must take wickets up front because the middle overs can be targeted by the opposition batsmen.
Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, Aiden Markram, RVD Dussen, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir.
The team winning the toss is going to want to bat first. The weather is expected to be sunny and good for batting. Getting runs on the board will be the idea.

Pakistan vs South Africa ICC World Cup 2019 is going to be played at Lord’s, London. A nice day for cricket with the sun out is expected on match day. We should be able to get a full match in without any interruptions.
The pitch at Lords is excellent for batting and both the teams will have an opportunity to get some big runs in this match. With both teams suffering from a crisis of confidence, batting first may be a big advantage.
Making the Dream11 prediction for Pakistan vs Australia ICC World Cup 2019 was more difficult than we had anticipated. There are a number of good players which could come into form as well as some expected changes to the playing eleven and so some tough decisions had to be taken. As always, we will update the Dream11 team for Pakistan vs South Africa ICC World Cup 2019 after the toss on Twitter. You can follow us @cricketbettings to get the latest updates.
Wicketkeeper: There are only two options available in this category. Quinton de Kock and Sarfaraz Ahmed. On current form, picking Quinton de Kock was an easy choice although Sarfaraz Ahmed is the kind of captain to promote himself when the going gets tough.
Batsmen: We think that Lord's is going to serve up a brilliant batting pitch for this match. This is why we have selected Faf du Plessis, Babar Azam, Imam ul Haq, Aiden Markram, and Rassie van der Dussen for this match.
Neither of these batsmen has really set the world cup on fire but there is no doubting their talent. On a flat pitch with a fast outfield and bowlers on both sides who are struggling as well, these batsmen have their best opportunity to score runs in the tournament. We hope that they will be able to make the most of it.
All-rounders: Mohammad Hafeez has been the one batsman that has looked in good touch for Pakistan. He was out playing a needless shot against India and will be keen to make amends. Our second pick from this category is Andile Phehlukwayo. He had an excellent series against Pakistan not too long back and that feeling of confidence can translate to a good performance very easily.
Bowlers: Mohammad Amir and Kagiso Rabada are the two best bowlers in this match. They will lead the attack for their sides and will bowl during the times when wickets are most needed. Our last pick for this match is Mohammad Hasnain, who we believe will be given an opportunity in this match. He is a young fast bowler with terrific speed and a very good slower ball as well.
Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Faf du Plessis as captain and Imam ul Haq as the vice-captain for this match.
Pakistan and South Africa are two flawed sides that are in poor form. They are quite closely matched to each other and the end result could depend on some very small things. Objectively, it appears that South Africa has the longer batting lineup while the bowling unit for both sides nearly cancels each other out.
We think South Africa will be able to win this match and extend Pakistan’s misery.
Bet on South Africa to win.
