Pakistan lost the first T20 international to Sri Lanka by a heavy margin and is receiving plenty of criticism for that result. Sri Lanka is playing this series without a number of its first-choice players and this win will help provide them a lot of confidence.
As the number one ranked side in the world and also playing at home after a very long time, Pakistan is going to be desperate to win this second T20 international and get back in the series. A loss here is going to resign it to a series-loss, a result that does not bode well moving towards the T20 World Cup in about a year’s time.
Can Sri Lanka take this opportunity to register a rare series win abroad?
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20 2019 is going to be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on the 7th of October 2019.
Pakistan has had a lot of success in T20 cricket and is deservingly ranked as the best team in the world in this format. For some reason, though, its recent selection policies have taken some backward steps.
Going back to players like Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal in the batting order seems strange. There are good top-order batters like Haris Sohail in brilliant form but they are not able to find a place in this side.
Sarfaraz Ahmed is batting at number four and seems to want to justify his place in the team rather than any other strategic purpose for him to bat at number four. Currently, the entire batting order seems to be dependent on the brilliant Babar Azam.
There is no doubting his class and we are fairly certain he is going to come up with a big score in the next couple of matches but that cannot be the plan long term. Iftikhar Ahmed, Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, and Shadab Khan provide enough batting depth to the Pakistani side for them to be able to experiment a bit in the top-order.
It was great to see Mohammad Hasnain get a game and he responded with three wickets to his name. Mohammad Amir also bowled well but could not pick up a wicket. Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan were expensive while Imad Wasim was just steady.
There is plenty of class in the Pakistani T20 side and one loss does not make it a bad team. They do, however, need to get their strategy right and make the best of their resources.
F Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Umar Akmal, Sarfraz Ahmed, Asif Ali, SI Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain.
The Sri Lanka team would be thrilled with its victory in the first match. Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Dashun Shanaka all played very well to put Pakistan on the backfoot.
Having a good score on the board is very important especially when your bowling attack is not that great.
The good batting performance paid dividends in the field as well and allowed the bowlers to create a lot of pressure. Isuru Udana was the pick of the bowlers for us while Nuwan Pradeep and Wanindy Hasaranga also bowled very well.
Everything went the way of the Sri Lankans in this match and they showed that they are more than capable of beating Pakistan. Can they do the same for two matches in a row, though?
The crucial part is going to be the batting performance once again. If Avishka Fernando or Gunathilaka can lead from the front once again then Sri Lanka is going to have a chance. The side is also going to be aware that Pakistan is going to hit back with plenty of fore in this match and so the joy of success must not turn into overconfidence.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka, Shehan Jayasuriya, Isuru Udana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Minod Bhanuka, Lakshan Sandakan, Kasun Rajitha, Nuwan Pradeep.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore provided a very good batting surface for the first match. There was some noticeable slowing down of the pace in the wickets as the match progressed and that is not going to escape the attention of the two teams.
Winning the toss and batting first could be a very big advantage since the pitch is not going to change in the matter of a few days.
The weather is expected to be very good for the duration of the match.
Pakistan is a very good side and is playing at home. The loss may help it snap out of any complacency that might have built up inside the camp. We thin Pakistan is going to get its strategies right and get back to winning ways in this match.
