It was a false start in the first match as Pakistani fans were left ruing the unseasonal rain that made cricket impossible. The second ODI was also pushed back by a day so that there was the best possible chance of a match being played between the two sides.
The good news is that the weather is fine and we should have a full game to look forward to now.
Pakistan is raring to go and will be hoping to put its best foot forward in front of its home crowd. This is a big occasion for a number of the Pakistani players that have never experienced a home crowd before and the pressure can affect the manner in which the game is played as well.
Sri Lanka is traveling with a lot of its first-choice players that did not travel to Pakistan. It is still not a weak side although it is undoubtedly an inexperienced one.
Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI 2019 is going to be played at the National Stadium, Karachi on the 30th of September 2019.
Pakistan had a poor World Cup campaign and even though they came close to qualifying in the end, they did not have anyone to blame but themselves. Now, with a new coach and a new vice-captain, Pakistan is looking to rebuild its side in the shorter formats of the game.
The batting lineup of Pakistan is going to be under scrutiny as they have lacked the intent and run-scoring abilities that some other teams have had in the past. Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul Haq are going to lead the batting with Babar Azam at number three.
This is where the maximum strength of the batting side is. Babar Azam is a world-class batsman and his consistency is remarkable. He and Imam ul Haq are class batsmen that should succeed in familiar batting conditions.
Fakhar Zaman is also very dangerous in placid batting conditions against mediocre bowling.
Asif Ali plays the role of the big-hitter alongside Haris Sohail, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Imad Wasim in the lower-middle order.
The bowling has some excellent spin bowling options with Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, and some genuine pace options with Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Amir, and Wahab Riaz to choose from.
Getting the playing eleven right is going to be one of the big headaches ahead of the team management in this match but that is a good headache to have.
F Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sarfraz Ahmed, SI Wasim, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan.
The absence of some leading Sri Lankan players gives the opportunity to the second rung of players to make an impact. Looking at the batting of the side, there are some big holes and players may struggle to immediately adapt to the conditions.
Lahiru Thirimanne and Avishka Fernando are going to be the two batsmen that lead the batting. Thirimanne is the captain of the side and has a decent record to back him up. His tendency to get starts and then throw his wicket away has to be rectified in this series where he will need to bat deep.
Avishka Fernando has impressed in his time with the Sri Lankan national side and was one of the finds of the World Cup. We are very keen to see what he can do in conditions that should be much more familiar to him.
Oshada Fernando, Danushka Gunathilaka, Dasun Shanaka, Shehan Jayasurya, and Sadeera Samarwickrama are the other players in the side that may help comprise the batting lineup. As we mentioned earlier, there are a few good players surrounded by a number of promising but inexperienced players in this lineup.
Lahiru Kumara, Lakshan Sandakan, Kasun Rajitha, and Nuwan Pradeep will lead the bowling attack. All of these bowlers have been a part of the international setup for Sri Lanka in the recent past and so we don’t think there is too much that the visitors will miss in this aspect of the game.
Avishka Fernando, Oshada Fernando, HDRL Thirimanne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Danushka Gunathilaka, Shehan Jayasuriya, Dasun Shanaka, Isuru Udana, Wanidu Hasaranga, Nuwan Pradeep, Lahiru Kumara.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first
Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.
The pitch at the National Stadium is going to be a big concern considering the sheer amount of rain that has fallen in the last few days. The curator would not have got the needed time or sun to make this pitch into a flat batting track.
We think a slow surface that will take spin and become more difficult to bat on as the match progresses is likely.
The weather forecast is much better and we should be able to get a full game in without any trouble.
We think that Pakistan is the team to back in this match because it is a far better side and is playing in home conditions. That being side, if Sri Lanka wins the toss and looks like getting to a good total then an in-play hedge is advisable.
Bet on Pakistan to win.
