Zimbabwe played some remarkable cricket and managed to beat Pakistan in the third and final ODI of the series. They might still have lost the series but there are no more meaningless matches as every win counts towards the World Cup Qualification.
The action now moves on to the T20 stage as Zimbabwe looks to build on that win.
There is no doubt that Pakistan will start as favorites. It also wants to try out some new players as it looks to strengthen its white-ball squad. Is there another opportunity for Zimbabwe to cause an upset? Let us see.
Pakistan vs Zimbabwe 1st T20 2020 is going to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on the 7th of November 2020.
The exact same set of players as those available for the ODI series is going to be available for Pakistan once more for the T20’s. The shortest format has been where Pakistan has been at its best in recent years and the form of Babar Azam has a lot to do with that.
As one of the best T20 batsmen in the world, Babar is going to lead from the front once more. He is in terrific form with a century in his previous match as well. There has been some talk about the strike-rate that he plays with but we don’t think there is any reason to worry about that right now.
There are going to be some obvious changes in the team that Pakistan looks to play.
Babar Azam is going to open the batting with Fakhar Zaman, who will be under some pressure to score some runs. Haider Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Haris Sohail, and Mohammad Rizwan appear likely to be the batsmen that are chosen for this match.
Shadab Khan may bat at number seven followed by the four bowlers.
That will allow Pakistan to play Imad Wasim, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and perhaps Mohammad Musa as one of the fast bowlers. There really is such a wealth of options available that Pakistan can pick any five bowlers and still be dangerous.
We don’t think they have underestimated Zimbabwe so far and we don’t think they are going to do that in the T20 format either.
Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Haider Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdil Shah, Faheem Ashraf, U Qadir, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hasnain, Haris Rauf.
Zimbabwe has struggled in the T20 format in recent years and things are going to be difficult for it in this series as well. Yes, we know that most of the players are going to be the same but adjusting to this compressed format can be difficult.
We hope to see some innovative tactics from Zimbabwe to try and upset the Pakistani rhythm.
The onus of scoring the runs is going to fall on the big-4.
Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine, Sean Williams, and Sikandar Raza. These are going to be the players that take up the sports from 2-5 in our opinion. Tinashe Kamunhukamwe may be asked to open the batting and go hard from the start.
There is talent in this batting lineup and a lot of experience. It is still a big ask for one of these batters to come up trumps against a brilliant T20 bowling lineup.
There is also a lack of big-hitting talent in this Zimbabwe team, something that is very crucial in T20 contests.
Tendai Chatara, Blessing Muzarabani, and Richard Ngarava seem likely to be in the playing eleven. Sikandar Raza and Sean Williams will play an important role in the bowling attack as well.
Zimbabwe is good at playing within its limitations and that is not conducive to a format where everything has to be turbocharged.
Chamu Chibhabha, Ryan Burl, BRM Taylor, Sean Williams, Wesley Madhevere, Sikandar Raza, Tendai Chisoro, Tendai Chatara, E Chigumbura, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. Chasing has been a bit tricky for both teams and so getting runs on the board might be the way to go.

The conditions in Rawalpindi are expected to be sunny and clear for the match. We don’t think there is any threat of any interruption to the match. The pitch is going to be good for batting as we saw in the ODI’s. The batsmen will be able to play through the line and take advantage of the nice bounce that the surface offers.
A score of around 170-180 is going to be par batting first.
We think Pakistan is going to win this match. It has a fantastic bowling attack that is going to come hard at the Zimbabwe batsmen. There is not going to be any swapping of players for this match either and you can expect the best eleven to take the field. The odds you are going to get on Pakistan are going to be better than normal because of its defeat in the previous match.
Bet on Pakistan to win.
This is a relatively safe bet. The conditions in Rawalpindi have been very good for batting and the presence of Babar Azam makes this bet very enticing. You just need to worry about Zimbabwe batting first and getting rolled over by the Pakistani bowlers. On the basis of what we have seen so far, though, you should be able to win this bet.
We think this is a very good Over/Under bet that you can make some decent money on. Fakhar Zaman has been out of touch and is struggling to score. He will be forced to play in an attacking manner and the chances of him making a mistake are even more.
We would take this bet happily in the current form that he is in.
Once again, considering the current form of Taylor, this bet is a no-brainer. He is going to get plenty of time to bat as he bets in the top-order. He is in great form and scored a century in the ODI series against the same set of bowlers he is going to face.
