About the Match
Winning a match against their arch rivals after 16 long years must have been motivating enough for Bangladesh camp to go out all guns blazing in the 2nd ODI as well. On the contrary, that loss might just have been enough to induce the spark in the Pakistani team which they've been lacking in the recent past. The aforementioned facts make the upcoming game ever more exciting and important as the home team would look to seal the series whereas the visitors would want to get back to the winning ways and claw their way back into the series. The 2nd ODI between Pakistan and Bangldesh will be played on 19th April at 0830 GMT at Dhaka. Pakistan will be hoping for the change in fortunes with the change in venue whereas Bangladesh would wish to stay on course and clinch the series with another win. With so much of stake, I expect it to be a tightly fought contest and of course an exciting one.
Pakistan made seven changes to the playing eleven they played in their last match, that is, the world cup quarterfinal, with two players making their debut. Their batting unit did reasonably well, but failed to get past the colossal target set by the Bangladesh. Skipper Azhar Ali played brilliantly for his 72 with Haris Sohail and Mohammad Rizwan chipping in with half-centuries. Mohammad Hafeez did not have a pleasant return to the international scene as was sent back to the pavilion after facing just eight deliveries. Fawad Alam too, failed to contribute with the bat. Pakistan's strength, their bowling, despite a good start, failed to keep the home team's batsmen in control and the runs on the scoreboard kept increasing at alarming pace during the latter part of the innings. Their bowlers had an off-day and with the likes of Junaid Khan, Wahab Riaz and Saeed Ajmal, Pakistani bowling still pose a major threat and can demolish any batting lineup on their day.
Its been more like a fairy-tale for the tigers since the World Cup started. After winning the first one with great ease, Bangladesh will be high on confidence. Their batsmen played magically well as they negotiated the venom in the early overs and later attacked and shifted gears during the final part of the innings. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim scored incredible hundreds with good support from Shakib al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar. Their bowlers bowled brilliantly well on a pitch that had nothing for the bowlers and restricted Pakistan. Mashrafe Mortaza will make his comeback after being suspended for one game and will lead the side. Bangladesh would be looking to continue their fairy-tale and seal the series and it wouldn't be surprising if it happens considering the form tigers are in.
Pakistani team is going through a transition phase and would love to get some wins under their belt doing so. On the other hand, the Bangladeshi tigers are playing incredibly well with the talented and settled team they have. It will be interesting to see who emerges on top with so much at stake. Pakistan have the talent and team to topple the hosts, but I think the experience and form of Bangladesh would be too hot to handle for the visitors in the upcoming game. Once again, I'd place my money on Bangladesh largely because of the form they're in and the winning momentum they have.
