About the Match
Shahid Afridi had an awesome evening in the last game as he singlehandedly thrashed the hosts in first ODI of the series. Pakistan once again faces West Indies in the second ODI of the series at the same venue on Tuesday, 16th July. It will be a crucial encounter for West Indies as they’d be itching to bounce back into the competition and give their fans something to cheer about. Pakistan is known to be unpredictable, and in the last game, they showed why they are known to be so. It turned out to be a one-sided encounter, but it is expected to a little closer this time.
Pakistan didn’t have a good start, but they finished it in a dream-like style. They lost their top order rather quickly as West Indies’ quickies were too good to deal with. However, Shahid Afridi had different ideas when he came into bat with Pakistan struggling for runs. He blasted 76 runs you take Pakistan is a relatively good position. Pakistan’s batting wasn’t all that good, but their bowling was sensational. In the initial overs, Mohammad Irfan picked quick wickets and it was trial by spin which West Indies batsmen failed to face later on. Despite a weak batting lineup, Pakistan is a strong team thanks to their bowling and can be extremely tough to deal with.
West Indies were far from even mediocre performance in the first ODI as far as their batting is concerned. Pakistani bowlers bowled well, but they were equally helped by poor shot selection and a bad strategy by West Indies batsmen. That performance clearly elaborated the weakness of this Caribbean team if Gayle does not fire. However, their poor show in batting overshadowed the brilliance they showed in bowling. Jason Holder was brilliant and so were the other bowlers as West Indies once had Pakistan tottering at 47 for five. West Indies is a good side, but they need to apply themselves in batting and if they are able to do that, they can bounce back.
The first ODI in this series was far from being close, but still had plenty of sensational moments. With hosts losing it so badly, they’d be keen to bounce back and regain that confidence their fans had in them. Can Pakistan stop West Indies from leveling the series? West Indies is a batting unit which looks over dependent on Chris Gayle. Pakistan too has a weak batting lineup balanced perfectly by their terrific bowling department. Considering overall team balance, I think Pakistan will win yet another game and double their lead.
West Indies, 1.80 @ William Hill
Batsmen of both sides struggled in the first game and bowlers flourished on a bowling friendly track. Pakistani top order has been struggling for form from long time and they have not been able to score quickly in the earlier overs. However, West Indies batsmen have scored quickly with Gayle and Johnson at the top. Despite their poor show in previous game, I believe West Indies would have a better score after first 15 Overs.
