Pakistan Women

The Pakistani team was on a high after whitewashing Ireland in the 3-match ODI series. However, they suffered a shock defeat in the first T20 match played this Saturday. Playing with a 1-0 deficit, the Pakistan Women will be playing hard to get the series to level with this match.

Playing without the in-form batter Sidra Ameen, the Pakistani top order fell cheaply. Muneeba Ali was out for a duck and was soon joined in the pavilion by Bismah Mahroof and Javeria Khan. Veteran all-rounder Nida Dar played a valiant inning of 61 runs from 43 deliveries and received some support from lower-order players like Aliya Riaz and Ayesha Naseem.

The final total of 135 wasn’t a match-winning one but did give something for the bowlers to defend. However, that wasn’t the case as the Pakistani bowling struggled on the flat pitch and eventually lost the match by 6 wickets. 

Ireland Women

Not many were giving Ireland a chance to cause an upset against an in-form Pakistan lineup. But the Irish team put up a spirited performance in the first game to turn the tide.

Orla Prendergast was excellent with the bat as well as the ball, scoring 39 crucial runs and picking up 3 wickets, including those of dangerous Muneeba Ali and Bismah Mahroof. She, along with Gaby Lewis, put up an excellent partnership of 55 runs for the second wicket to guide Ireland to a comfortable victory.

Gaby Lewis was in great touch, as she scored a well-deserved half-century, and remained unbeaten till the end. However, Ireland will need the other players to step up too, if it wants a repeat result on Monday.
