About the Match
The Mysuru Warriors were unbeaten in the group stages last year and they are yet to be defeated this year as well. Granted, these are still early days but the Belagavi Panthers would be worried going into this encounter against them. Considered as the dark horses by many before the tournament began, can the Panthers finally put a stop to the amazing run the Warriors have been having?
The Panthers registered their first win of the tournament in the last match against the Bangalore Blasters. Batting first, they scored an impressive 192 thanks largely to Stuart Binny’s 87 from 46 balls. His whirlwind inning included 8 fours and 5 sixes as well.
He was also helped by some useful cameos from Stalin Hoover, K Kamath, and Rakshith near the end of the innings.
The star performers for the Panthers also followed up their performance with the ball as Binny took two wickets, Hoover two and Kamath ended with 4 wickets to his name.
This was a very impressive performance from the Panthers especially since K Gowtham is missing because of Duleep Trophy duties. It is clear the Stuart Binny has quickly emerged as the fulcrum of this team and we think that the Panthers should acknowledge that fact by sending him up the order in the upcoming matches. His batting position of number 5 is a little too low in our opinion.
The likes of Binny, Srinath Arvind, and Stalin Hoover also give the Panthers a very impressive bowling attack that should test the Mysuru Warriors.
Two wins from two matches would have given a lot of confidence to the Mysuru Warriors, however, it should be noted that those wins came against teams that are yet to win a single match in the tournament.
This match against the Belagavi Panthers will be much tougher.
Karun Nair will be missing from this match because of the Duleep Trophy and this going to be a big loss for the Warriors. He may not have scored too many runs in the tournament up until now but it is only a matter of time before a class player like Karun Nair makes his mark.
In his absence, batsmen like Arjun Hoysala, Vinit Yadav, and S Raju will have to step up.
The bowling will be led by Vijay Kumar who has 4 wickets from the first two matches at an economy rate of 5.00. N Bharath and S Akshay have also been impressive so far and will try to keep the big hitter on the Panthers side quiet.
It is notable that the Bengaluru blasters came within 4 runs of their chase against the Warriors in the last match and their batting unit is much weaker than the Panthers.
Pitch and Conditions
The weather conditions are expected to improve around the time of the day when the second match begins so we can hope for more or less a full game. The pitch tends to get a little better to bat on as the lights come on so we could see a high scoring match.
