Punjab

Punjab finished the last season in 3rd spot in its group and failed to advance. But the team has left no stone unturned this season to ensure qualification to the quarterfinals. Barring the loss against Delhi, Punjab has won 5 matches so far, including in the last 4 matches.

The latest of those victories came against a hapless Puducherry, who were asked to bat first. A superb spell of bowling by Siddharth Kaul helped Punjab restrict to mere 86 runs, which were chased down with 8 wickets to spare.

Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh have been pretty consistent throughout the series, and have scored at an average of 48.75 and 54.66 respectively. Shubhman Gill has only recently joined the squad but is yet to get a good start. On the bowling front, Siddharth Kaul picked up 5 wickets in the last match and has proved to be Punjab’s biggest asset.

He has been ably supported by Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Markande, both of whom have been quite economical.

Uttar Pradesh

For Uttar Pradesh, this is a must-win game if they want a chance to make it into the top two of the group. After suffering a loss against Goa, the team bounced back strongly in the last game, defeating Hyderabad by 7 wickets.

Even if Uttar Pradesh wins this game, its entry into the quarterfinals will be heavily dependent on the outcome of the match between Delhi and Tripura, as we are likely to see the NRR come into play.

Karan Sharma and Aryan Juyal have been terrific in the top order, both scoring at an average of more than 70 runs. These will be the danger men as far as the Punjab bowlers are concerned. However, since the top order has performed so well, the middle-order batsmen haven’t had much chance in the 6 matches played so far.

Shivam Mavi has bowled some good spells and is the top wicket-taker for UP. However, other than him, none of the bowlers have had a significant impact.
