PER vs BH Match Prediction - Feb 04, 2023

The Perth Scorchers are probably as surprised as anyone that their opponent in the BBL Final will be the Brisbane Heat. Many (including us) believed that the Sixers would cruise to the last game due to Brisbane’s loss of their star Aussie players, but the Heat defied expectations with a massive 6/117 win by 10 balls.

Of course, the Scorchers have been chilling out since beating Sydney in the Qualifier match on January 28th, but to their credit, the Heat have played incredibly well in three tough matches to reach the Final against Perth.

The biggest injury news for the Final is that Scorchers’ fast bowler, Jhye Richardson, will miss the game due to an on-going hamstring issue.

PER vs BH Team Previews

Perth Scorchers

It seems in all likelihood that the Perth Scorchers will repeat as champions in the BBL Final. The great thing about the team is not only is it stacked with talented batters and bowlers, but also the majority of the squad has stayed there all season, without any call-ups to international games or other T20 leagues, for example.

Perth steamrolled over the Sixers in the Qualifier match and proved to everyone that they’re still the team to beat. They’ve had several days to relax, while the Heat have worked themselves to the bone in order to reach the Final.

The list of skilled batters who can easily pick up a half-century or more is quite ridiculous, as Inglis, Bancroft, and Hardie (443 total runs) have all had four scores above 50 this season. Then you’ve also got Turner with a huge total of 84* in the win over Sydney, as well as Eskinazi being more than capable of hitting huge scores.

The bowling doesn’t suffer in this team, as even though they’ll miss Richardson’s speed and reliability, the Scorchers still have Tye (25 total wickets), Morris, and Behrendorff to devastate the Heat batters. These three pace bowlers have all taken three wickets in a match, and have all been bowling really well in the build-up to the Final.

Perth Scorchers Playing 11

Stephen Eskinazi, Cameron Bancroft, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Cooper Connolly, Andrew Tye, Matthew Kelly, David Payne, Jason Behrendorff.

Brisbane Heat

There’s no doubt that the Heat’s key to victory over the Sixers were the bowlers. Neser (2/28), Kuhnemann (3/17), and Johnson (3/28) were the standouts on the day. While it’s not such a surprise to see Neser (26 wickets overall) perform great with the ball, it was more of a shock for the other two, as neither had been bowling very well in their previous matches.

Regardless of who was bowling, the Heat managed to limit the Sixers to a pretty poor total of 116, which helped an undermanned Brisbane batting lineup pick up the win. Without Labuschagne, Renshaw, and Khawaja in the squad, it was up to others to get the runs… which also didn’t happen, to be honest.

Hain, Peirson (331 total runs), and Brown were the three batters that should have stepped up in this game, but they combined for only 35 runs. The openers and middle order were quite terrible for Brisbane, but thankfully there was someone to save the day yet again, and it was a revelation to see Neser score 48 runs! He’s hardly known as a batter, but he helped the Heat get the victory.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Sam Heazlett, Josh Brown, Nathan McSweeney, Sam Hain, Jimmy Peirson, Max Bryant, Michael Neser, James Bazley, Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann.

PER vs BH Toss Prediction

Perth should look to bowl first and remove the Heat for a low total to chase.

Pitch and Conditions

Pace bowlers love the pitch at the Perth Stadium to due the extra bounce and movement they get. It can be tricky for batters not accustomed to this treatment with the ball, but the Scorchers should know the pitch well and their fast bowlers will understand the tricks.

PER vs BH Betting Tips

This one shouldn’t be a contest at all, as the Scorchers are simply a behemoth of a team and will crush the Heat in this Final. Perth has beaten Brisbane five times in a row and has a 13-7 record overall.

The Heat barely made it past the Sixers, even if it was a good victory, but without late-game heroics from Michael Neser, they wouldn't be able to reach the Final. Brisbane’s bowlers can be helpful, but the top-order batters are untrustworthy and will crumble under the pressure from the Perth bowlers.

The Scorchers have so many talented batters, which means even if one or two are having a bad game, there’s someone else to step up and score major runs for a win.

It’s true that the odds for picking Perth aren’t very exciting as they are the clear favourite, but the Scorchers are the real deal and will easily pick up the victory in the Final. By all means, put a small amount on the Heat just in case Peirson or Hain has the game of his life, but a surer bet is on the Scorchers due to their incredible roster.
