The Big Bash League 2019-20 has just started but we are already getting our first return game of the season. The Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers have played against each other already right at the start of the tournament and are now going to be plating each other again.
Both the teams have played three matches and won one out of them, so their start to BBL 09 has not been the best. The Sydney Sixers ended up dominating the Perth Scorchers the last time these two teams met but have since crashed to earth with two below-par performances. The Perth Scorchers have played just one game at the Perth Stadium before this one in this season of the Big Bash, one which they won quite easily.
Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Sixers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Perth Stadium, Perth on the 26th of December 2019.
The Perth Scorchers batting lineup seems to have come to life in its previous two matches. The Scorchers put in a fantastic batting performance against the Melbourne Renegades propelled by Mitchell Marsh and then almost chased down close to 200 in 18 overs against the Adelaide Strikers.
While the most recent match against the Strikers ended in a loss for the Scorchers, the performances of Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis at the top of the order would have given them a lot of heart.
The conditions in Perth are suitable for batting and so this strong batting order is going to under the pump once again. We like the freedom with which they bat and think it is just a matter of time before Ashton Turner joins the party in a big way.
With Cameron Bancroft and Mitchell Marsh also in form, the Perth Scorchers are a very strong batting team.
The bowling was not as good as it should have been against the Adelaide Strikers. Jhye Richardson was better than he has been but Joel Paris was below-average. Chris Jordan had an off-day and Mitchell Marsh struggled to get his overs through as well.
Ashton Agar could bowl just one over and had to be protected from the left-handed batsmen as well.
The Perth Scorchers know that their wins are only going to start coming once the bowling unit starts to complement the batting side.
Liam Livingstone, Josh Inglis, CT Bancroft, AJ Turner, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, Ashton Agar, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Fawad Ahmed, Matthew Kelly.
A fantastic bowling performance from the Sydney Sixers was the basis of their victory against the Perth Scorchers. That performance, though, came on a sluggish pitch that suited their bowling attack. They are going to be struggling to get the same kind of help in Perth where the ball comes on to the bat very nicely.
Sean Abbott and Tom Curran are very good bowlers that will be up for the challenge but to expect them to completely shut-down the Perth Scorchers batting is not realistic.
Ben Dwarshius and Lloyd Pope were a part of the bowling attack in the previous match. We have seen spinners be quite effective in Perth and so Pope should get another go in this match.
The major problem for the Sydney Sixers is going to be its batting. Josh Phillipe has struggled against spin and the Scorchers are going to come after him with better plans. The onus of getting the big runs is going to fall on James Vince and Moises Henriques in the middle.
Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk have not been able to get going so far in BBL 09 and their form could be a bit iffy.
The Sydney Sixers batting just does not seem to be close to what the Perth Scorchers have and that is a big disadvantage on a good batting deck.
Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes, J Vince, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Hayden Kerr, Tom Curran, Sean Abbott, B Dwarshuis, Lloyd Pope, JM Bird.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

There is no rain predicted on Boxing Day in Perth and so the teams should be able to play a full match without any interruptions. The pitch at Perth Stadium was brilliant for T20 cricket in the previous match played here. It had a lot of bounce and pace to keep the bowlers interested but it was also flat enough for the batsmen to play freely on.
A similar deck for a high-scoring match is likely.
