PER vs SYT Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 24, 2019

Sydney Thunder lost a match against the Melbourne Renegades that they really should have won. Now, they will face a Perth Scorchers team that is right at the bottom of the Big Bash League. This is not a situation that the Perth Scorchers are used to being in and so it will be interesting to see how they respond.

The Perth Scorchers have won just three out of their nine matches so far. It is looking like teams will need around 7-8 wins to be able to qualify and so the Perth Scorchers cannot afford any more defeats from here on in.

Sydney Thunder is in a similar position with four wins from ten games but is in fourth place on the BBL League table. This just shows how closely the teams are placed right now and any one side could gain a significant advantage by getting a few wins over the other.

PER vs SYT Team Previews

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers are going to be playing at Perth Stadium, a venue they are very suited to. The hard and fast pitch at Perth allows their bowling attack to be at its best. The Perth Scorchers are also going to be significantly stronger in this match thanks to the return of Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, and Jason Behrendorff from national duty.

Jhye Richardson has been picked for the test matches but since he was not a part of the squad for the last few matches either, his absence is not going to be a very big concern.

The addition of Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh makes the Perth Scorchers a strong batting side. Shaun Marsh scored a lot of runs against India while Mitchell Marsh is returning from injury. The Marsh brothers are BBL legends and should provide a significant boost to the Scorchers chances.

Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Turner, and Hilton Cartwright have also been in good batting form. Bancroft has scored a lot of runs since making his come back but the star of the team has been Ashton Turner. His ability to start clearing the boundaries from the very beginning of his inning makes him very dangerous.

Turner has also been very consistent in BBL 08.

The bowling unit will likely comprise of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, and Usman Qadir for this match. One of Matthew Kelly and Aaron Hardie will also find a place in the squad.

This is a very strong Perth Scorchers side, perhaps the strongest it has been this season.

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder is going to have a tough time playing the Perth Scorchers in this match. They should have won their previous match against the Melbourne Renegades but a batting failure prevented that from happening.

Shane Watson was out for 1 and Anton Devcich out for a duck. This meant that the two best batsmen of the side did not contribute anything to the chase. Callum Ferguson looked very good and scored a fifty but got out just when he should have put his foot down.

Jason Sangha was left not out on 54 but his inning came off 49 deliveries. With the power hitters failing down the order, Sydney Thunder did not get the impetus it needed. Sydney Thunder is going to be facing a very strong bowling attack in this match.

Their batting must do better if Sydney Thunder is to have a chance of winning. For that to happen, Shane Watson and Anton Devcich must score. Watson, more than any other player in the Sydney Thunder side, is going to determine how this match goes.

Unfortunately, we don’t think he will score too many runs in this match. Watson has been found susceptible to genuine pace this season and that is exactly what he will be served up in Perth.

The bowling for Sydney Thunder has been a bit underwhelming this entire season. Fawad Ahmad and Chris Green have been very good but the wickets have also dried up a bit for them. Gurinder Sandhu seems to have staked his claim in the team and will be supported by Sams, Rainbird, and maybe Watson himself.

This bowling attack will need a lot of luck against a Perth Scorchers batting lineup which has been strengthened by the return of its best players.

Sydney Thunder Playing 11

Anton Devcich, SR Watson, Callum Ferguson, Jason Sangha, Daniel Sams, Christopher Green, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Jordan, M Gilkes, Gurinder Sandhu, Fawad Ahmed.

PER vs SYT Betting Tips

We think this is an excellent betting opportunity. The Perth Scorchers have underperformed in the Big Bash League so far. They are a much better side than the results suggest. The opposite is true of Sydney Thunder. We think it is just a matter of time before Sydney Thunder slips down the BBL League table.

Back the Perth Scorchers to win.
