About the Match
Scorchers will host Strikers in the upcoming match at Perth on 23rd December, and the contest could surely see some fireworks across the park with the BBL getting into a festive spirit. The tournament has just started but both sides will be determined to do well and gain precious points here. The Strikers lost their last game against Brisbane Heat by 10 runs and will be eager to redeem themselves here; Scorchers start the series with a clean slate and could come out fully determined to entertain their fans on home soil and win their opening game on Friday.
The team has a solid batting line-up with players like David Willey, Ian Bell, Adam Voges, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, Michael Klinger and Cameron Bancroft. They have a good mix of experience and youthful talent that can combine well to set a strong total if batting first or do well in a chase.
Mitchell Johnson will lead the pace attack while Nathan Coulter-Nile, Joel Paris, Andrew Tye, Mitchell Marsh, Jhye Richardson and Willey add depth to the unit. Spinners like Ashton Turner, James Muirhead, Shaun Marsh and Ashton Agar can try to outwit the Strikers here, and they together make a well-balanced bowling unit.
They had finished third last season and will try to perform better this time around; with a power-packed batting contingent and an experienced pace attack, the Scorchers look well placed to win.
Fast-bowlers Chris Jordan and Keiron Pollard took 2 wickets each against Brisbane Heat in an economical way but others like Michael Neser, Lehmann and Ben Laughlin proved to be too costly, giving away easy runs. The batsmen had to chase a stiff target of 207 and although openers Ben Dunk, who posted a superb 85 off 43, and Weatherald who scored 52 off 30 built a solid partnership of 133, they ended up losing the match by 10 runs.
Travis Head, Brad Hodge, Pollard, Lehmann, and Jordan add depth to the batting line-up while speedsters like Kane Richardson, Ben Laughlin and Michael Neser can try to demolish the opponents here with their pace skills. Spinners Liam O’Connor and Jake Lehmann bring variety to the bowling squad and they can strategize better to stifle the Scorchers here at their own backyard.
They lost their opening game but have good resources on the team that can help them get a better foothold on the proceedings in the upcoming match.
Strikers come here at the back of a loss and will try to perform better against Scorchers though the latter have the home advantage and will fight tooth and nail to start with a win. Both teams are equally matched to dominate on the field, either with bat or ball; they have experienced players as well as youngsters waiting to shine in the limelight. While the result could go either way, we feel that Strikers with their all-rounder brigade and strong top order are clear favorites to emerge victorious here.
