Michael Neser struck early with 3 wickets to defend the team’s score of 153 runs in the match against Sydney Thunder and contributed to their win. While Botha took the wicket of Hughes in the very first over to destabilize the Thunders, excellent fielding by Ferguson led to the run-out of Patterson and Tait dismissed Hussey in the second last ball of the innings to restrict the opponents to 147 runs, thus winning the match by a close margin of 6 runs. Earlier, Klinger and Philip Hughes kept the scoreboard ticking with Klinger posting 44 runs off 34 balls and Reardon scored a good unbeaten score of 32 runs off 21 deliveries to take the team to a total of 153 runs. The bowlers did well to defend the low total and the team played collectively to secure their first win of the league. The Strikers are definitely in the running for the top-four and will look forward to take their campaign ahead with a win against the Scorchers here.
The Scorchers won against Melbourne Renegades by 6 runs in a low-scoring game last week to open their account with 2 points on the table. While Shaun Marsh and Katich posted a 48-run opening partnership, the former batted alongside his brother Mitchell Marsh to add another 25 runs to the total. While the rest of the battling line-up crumbled under pressure and the team was able to post only 117 runs in the end; the bowlers did extremely well to defend this score and win them the match. Arafat took the important wicket of Finch in the 5th over and came back to take 2 more middle-order wickets, finishing with a superb figure of 3-15; Mitchell gave an all-round performance and took 2 wickets while Behrendorff and Thomas claimed a wicket each to demolish the Renegades. The narrow win has certainly given the team a great boost and they will be eager to come out all guns blazing in the match against the Strikers.
The Scorchers showed great determination to win the close match against the Renegades and on the other hand the Strikers too played collectively as a team to stifle the Thunders and win the match. Both sides show will to succeed and the team that puts its best foot forward on Tuesday will come out on top. While the match will be a close contest, the Strikers seem to have an upper hand with the home advantage and are looking better placed to win the match.
