A disappointing loss in the opening match for the Perth Scorchers women has put them under some early pressure and they now face the defending champions, Adelaide Strikers, in their next match. Adelaide Strikers managed to defeat the Sydney Sixers very comprehensively but was then tripped up by Sydney Thunder in its next match as well.
The competition between the different teams is very close in WBBL 05 and we think we could have many more upsets in the coming days.
Perth Scorchers Women vs Adelaide Strikers Women WBBL is going to be played at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane on the 26th of October 2019.
A very poor performance with the bat in the first match led to the downfall of the Perth Scorchers. They were never able to get any momentum in their innings and ended up with a below par total.
Meg Lanning is the best batter in the Perth Scorchers lineup and she was not able make any significant contribution in the first match. Lanning is too good a player to fail very often and knows that she needs to lead from the front.
Amy Ellen Jones and Natalie Sciver scored some decent runs but the blitz at the end never came.
On paper, the batting lineup for the Scorchers is very good. Meg Lanning, Amy Ellen Jones, Natalie Sciver, Nicole Bolton, Georgia Redmayne, and Heather Graham are all good batters. Perhaps some more urgency showed at the top will help them in the upcoming matches.
Kim Garth, Jemma Barsby, and Piepa Cleary bowled pretty decently to try and keep the Perth Scorchers in the game but the total was never enough. Bowling is not one of the strong features of this Perth Scorchers squad and they would not want to be depending on them to do the heavy lifting too often.
Amy Ellen Jones, Meg Lanning, Natalie Sciver, Nicole Bolton, Georgia Redmayne, Heather Graham, Chloe Piparo, Jemma Barsby, Kim Garth, Piepa Cleary, Taneale Peschel.
We think that Adelaide Strikers has been one of the better sides in the WBBL so far in terms of the quality of play they have shown. They bowled brilliantly to decimate the Melbourne Renegades in the first match and then batted pretty well against them in the return match as well before slipping up.
Some excellent batting form the opposition took the game away from Brisbane but that is not something to be worried about.
Sophie Devine has been leading the Adelaide Strikers batting and has looked in terrific touch. We think there is a very good chance that she makes the most of going up against a weak Perth Scorchers bowling attack.
If she gets going then Adelaide Strikers could end up with a big total.
Suzie Bates, Stafanie Taylor, and Tahlia McGrath are the other players that are expected to contribute in the batting.
Adelaide Strikers does not have a very long batting lineup and depends on contributions from its middle order consistently. This is why a player like Taylor could be very crucial for it down the order.
Megan Schutt, Sarah Coyte, Sophie Devine, and Amanda Wellington would be disappointed at their bowling performance against Sydney Thunder. They had picked up quick wickets and the run rate was rising but Adelaide Strikers could not finish off the job.
There is enough talent in this lineup to bounce back, though, and keep the pressure on a struggling Perth Scorchers batting unit.
Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, T McGrath, Lauren Winfield, B Patterson, Katie Mack, T McPharlin, Amanda Wellington, S Coyte, A Price, Megan Schutt.

The weather forecast for Brisbane is very good and we think there should be no weather-related interruptions in the match. The pitch in Brisbane is one of the best for batting that we will see in this entire competition. There should be a decent amount of bounce in the wicket and the ball should come nicely on to the bat.
We think that Adelaide Strikers has the advantage in this match and should be able to win thanks to its better bowling lineup.
Bet on Adelaide Strikers to win.
