Perth Scorchers Women

The current champs are looking a little more human after their recent loss to the Strikers and the 5-3 record. However, they’re one of the most dangerous teams in the WBBL and can beat any team on a good day.

Batter Beth Mooney is the team’s leading run-scorer with 258 and is second in the entire league. It was pretty heartbreaking to see her reach 99* and be just one run away from a century, but the team got the win over the Sixers, so that’s all that matters. Her duck against the Strikers was a bit shocking, though.

We’re still really impressed with Maddy Green, who continues to reach the high 30s in nearly every game, but she must get to the point of hitting some half-centuries soon enough. Captain Sophie Devine had been off-form lately, but her 37 runs in the last game proves she’s capable of hitting big scores.

It’s good to see pace bowler Piepa Cleary getting wickets again, as her 2/29 did break her slump of not picking up any wickets in her last four matches. Spinner Lilly Mills is still the most reliable bowler on the team, and her four overs are the most crucial for the Scorchers.

Brisbane Heat Women

You think the Heat have forgotten that the Scorchers defeated them just a few games ago? Not a chance. Brisbane will be out for revenge, and with loads of talented players performing brilliantly on the squad; they are likely to get it.

Georgia Redmayne is not only the Heat’s leading run-scorer with 305, but the entire WBBL as well, which means she’s laser-focused this season and helping Brisbane to their 6-3 record. Redmayne did have a slump for two games with only nine runs overall, but she came storming back to score 64 runs in the win over the Thunder.

The team’s bowlers are doing their role well too, as captain Jessica Jonassen (17 wickets) and Nicola Hancock (14 wickets) are in the top eight of wicket-takers in the league. Jonassen had three games taking three wickets without giving up more than 25 runs, which is great to see from a captain leading their squad.  

Laura Harris’ 68* recently came out of nowhere, as she’d made only 11 runs in her last four matches before the scoring rush. If she can keep this up, and Danni Wyatt can improve her consistency, then the Heat will be trouble for everyone in the league.
