The Women’s Big Bash League has had to shift its operations completely to Sydney for 2020 but the very fact it is happening at all is a huge positive. Women’s cricket has been hurt much more than the men’s during the pandemic as cash strapped boards cut back. The WBBL is perhaps the best women’s cricket tournament in the world, maybe even better than the women’s T20 World Cup in some respects, and should be excellent to watch.
This match is going to be played between the Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat. The Scorchers have revamped their side pretty significantly and will be hoping to give two-time defending Champions Brisbane Heat a run for their money.
Can the Heat manage to get their three-peat campaign off the ground successfully?
Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat WBBL 2020 is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney on the 25th of October 2020.
The Perth Scorchers decided to change the entire composition of their team in the off-season and we think they have done wonderfully well in the end. They have let go of Meg Lanning, perhaps the best batter in Australian women’s cricket, but they did get Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine!
These are two of the best WBBL players in recent times. Not only will Mooney and Devine make a big impact in the batting but Devine’s bowling is also going to come in very handy.Beth Mooney was instrumental in leading Brisbane Heat to its two title victories in the previous two seasons and it will be very interesting to see how she starts against her old team.
The likes of Nicole Bolton and Amy Jones give the Perth Scorchers some very decent batting depth in its squad.
The bowling is more of a concern. They have Heather Graham to lead the attack and Sophie Devine is going to be a big plus as well, however, the likes of Sarah Glen and Chloe Piparo need to have a good season for the Perth Scorchers to be successful.
We think the Perth Scorchers are much stronger than they were in the previous few seasons but finding the right balance to their playing eleven is going to be crucial.
Beth Mooney, Sophie Devine, Amy Ellen Jones, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, Chloe Piparo, Sarah Glenn, Jemma Barsby, Megan Banting, Piepa Cleary, Taneale Peschel.
Is this the end of the Brisbane Heat winning run in the WBBL? The side has been immensely successful in the previous two years but some of its biggest pillars of success are no longer with it. Beth Mooney is going to be lining up against the Heat in this match, Sammy-Jo Johnson hes left for the Thunder, and Kirby Short has retired.
A lot is going to depend on the shoulders of Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen, and the new additions to the squad like Amelia Kerr, Georgia Redmayne, and Nadine de Klerk.
The bowling attack is pretty decent with Jess Jonassen, Delissa Kimmince, Amelia Harris, and Laura Harris in there. It is the bating that needs to step up and fill the Beth Mooney shaped hole in their lineup.
If Grace Harris can be a bit more consistent, Georgia Redmayne as effective as she can be, and Nadine de Klerk can provide the boost in the middle then Brisbane Heat may yet be a contender this season.
Maddy Green, Georgia Redmayne, Jess Jonassen, Grace Harris, Laura Harris, Amelia Kerr, Mikayla Hinkley, Delissa Kimmince, Georgia Prestwidge, Courtney Sippel, Nicola Hancock.
We think the team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. Both teams have a revamped batting lineup and they prefer to set the score rather than be under any scoreboard pressure while chasing.

The conditions in Sydney are generally a bit spin-friendly and slower than in other parts of Australia. For the beginning fo the WBBL, however, we expect good batting conditions and plenty of runs to be scored.
Anything around 150 is going to be difficult to chase down with 140 being the least that teams batting first aim for.
We think the presence of Sophie Devine and Beth Moone immediately makes the Perth Scorchers serious contenders in this year’s WBBL. They are both WBBL legends that will help raise the standard of the entire Scorchers side with their experience.
Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
