We return to the action in the Women’s Big Bash League with the Perth Scorchers taking on the Melbourne Renegades. This will be the second time that these two teams are meeting each other in WBBL 05. The Melbourne Renegades won their first contest quite easily and would be hoping for a repeat of the same.
The Perth Scorchers, on the other hand, need to improve in all aspects of the game if they want to climb up the WBBL standings.
Perth Scorchers Women vs Melbourne Renegades Women WBBL 05 is going to be played at the WACA Ground, Perth on the 1st of November 2019.
This is the first match that the Scorchers are going to be playing at home and will be hoping that this kicks off their campaign in the right direction. The Perth Scorchers were considered one of the better teams in this year’s BBL and a lot of hope was laid at the feet of Meg Lanning.
With just one win out of three matches so far, those expectations have not quite been met until now.
Surprisingly, it has been the batting that has been so poor for the Perth Scorchers so far. Meg Lanning was expected to be the match-winner at the top of the order and she has delivered in one match. The other two where she did not get a score were where the Perth Scorchers fell short.
Nicole Bolton, Nate Sciver, and Amy Ellen Jones are good batters but they have been missing the impetus in their innings. Even when one of these batters is getting runs, the strike rate is not quick enough to be making a real difference.
Chloe Piparo, Georgia Redmayne, and Heather Graham were expected to make some good contributions but that has also not happened so far.
The Perth Scorchers batting is looking quite rusty and a bit over-dependent on Meg Lanning.
Kim Garth has been the standout bowler so far with a few good performances from the others. The Perth Scorchers never had the strongest bowling lineup to begin with and that is why not too much blame can be put on the bowlers.
Meg Lanning, Amy Ellen Jones, Natalie Sciver, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, Georgia Redmayne, Chloe Piparo, Jemma Barsby, Kim Garth, Piepa Cleary, Taneale Peschel.
The Melbourne Renegades could have easily had three wins out of four but it lost its most recent match against Sydney Thunder by three runs. It was an extremely close match where the Renegades had plenty of chances to get ahead but a top-order collapse prevented it from getting across.
The Melbourne Renegades bowling has been very good in WBBL 05. Sophie Molineux, Lea Tahuhu, and Danielle Wyatt have been very good in all the matches they have played. Even the other bowlers have chipped in without fail, thus giving the Melbourne Renegades a good opportunity to win matches.
The batting has been more inconsistent and that is where we believe the Melbourne Renegades have the most work to do. Their top-3 of Sophie Molineux, Tammy Beaumont, and Danielle Wyatt is very potent.
They just need to be a bit more consistent and we are sure that the Renegades will end up making the WBBL 05 playoffs.
The contribution of Jessica Duffins in the previous match would have eased a lot of concerns about her form as well and helps give the Renegades a stronger looking batting unit.
Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Molineux, Maitlan Brown, Molly Strano, Josie Dooley, Lea Tahuhu, Jess Duffin, Georgia Wareham, Claire Koski, Danielle Wyatt, Carly Leeson.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

The weather in Perth is expected to be hot and sunny on match-day. There is almost no chance of rain that is predicted.
The pitch at the WACA is always a bit bouncy and provides some decent pace to the batters. These factors may end up making it an excellent batting surface for the women and we think a score of around 150 should be considered par at this surface.
The Melbourne Renegades definitely have the better form going for them in this contest. They have won two out of the four matches they have played including one against the Perth Scorchers. Playing at home could help the Scorchers but its lack of batting intent in the past few matches has us worried.
