Perth Scorchers just managed to stay in the middle-order rut, thanks to their last ball win over Melbourne Renegades in a recently concluded encounter. They have another challenge ahead of them, albeit not anticipated to be as fierce as it was against the Renegades. They are now set to face another team from Melbourne, Melbourne Stars, on 2nd November at Perth. Melbourne Stars are the only team, who are yet to win a game in the tournament and are expected to come out all guns blazing in the upcoming fixture.
Perth Scorchers pulled off a miraculous win in their recent encounter over Melbourne Renegades as Meg Lanning smashed a six off the final delivery to take her team home in a crunch game. Perth Scorchers have done incredibly well in coming back from a heart-wrenching loss in their first match, wherein their batsmen failed to fire.
The Scorchers are although placed just one spot from the bottom of the table, they have done as well as other teams in the competition. They currently have four points to their name and due to their inferior net run-rate they are at the seventh spot.
Although the Scorchers bowlers failed to make any mark against the Renegades as the Renegades smashed 134 runs in 15 overs for the loss of one wicket, their batsmen, Meg Lanning in particular, did exceedingly well as she single-handedly drove her team to victory.
All in all Perth Scorchers have an incredibly good top-order with Lanning leading from the front. They have problems with their bowling attack, but considering their superb batting lineup, the management wouldn't be too worried about that.

Melbourne Stars have only themselves to blame for the situation they're in. They haven't played as badly as the points table suggest, but they have failed to seize the opportunities at important junctures.
Consequently, the Stars are placed at the bottom of the table with no win to their name despite having four completed games against their name. They have a pretty poor net run-rate of -0.714, which is worst among all teams.
The Stars are coming off a closely fought game wherein Sydney Thunder just managed to sneak past them. Batting first, the Stars somehow crawled their way to 141 for the loss of five wickets. To defend the total, they needed to pick wickets at regular intervals and although they did, Thunder just managed to get past them with two wickets to spare.

Going by the points table, there's not much to choose between the sides. The Scorchers are placed at the second-last spot whereas the Stars are at the bottom. Having said that, the ladder doesn't always tell the complete picture. Perth Scorchers have played a lot better cricket than the Stars and have momentum with them. The Scorchers also have a terrific top-order, which the Stars are going to find difficult bowling to. Therefore, Perth Scorchers are firm favorites to emerge on top and hand Stars their fifth defeat of the tournament.
