PERW vs MLSW Match Prediction - Oct 20, 2022

It’s a tale of two cities, as the Perth Scorchers are looking for their third win of the season, while the Melbourne Stars are still searching for their first victory.

Perth sits second on the ladder after their most recent win over the Hurricanes, in which Maddy Green (32 runs, not out) and Beth Mooney (38 runs, not out) were excellent in the victory and really put the team on their backs.

The Stars, on the other hand, sit 7th on the ladder and suffered a big loss to the Sixers in their last game. Despite a decent 37 runs from Bess Heath, Melbourne was no match for Sydney with the bat or ball.

PERW vs MLSW Team Previews

Perth Scorchers Women

Perth could reach the top of the ladder if the team wins against Melbourne, as right now it’s only the Scorchers and Sixers that remain unbeaten, but Sydney has played one more game.

Although no Scorchers player is in the top 8 of Most Runs in the WBBL, leg spin bowler Alana King is in the top three of Most Wickets with five. That’s not to say that Perth needs help with the bat, as captain Sophie Devine, Beth Mooney, and Maddy Green have all reached past 30 runs and all playing brilliantly.

Devine is the key to most victories, as her batting average of 29.57 and total runs of 2,839 in 112 matches is a clear indication of her importance to the team. She scored 44 runs from 42 deliveries in the Scorchers’ first win of the season.

Melbourne Stars Women

If the Stars have any chance to win, then it’ll be down to opening batter, Lauren Winfield-Hill. She’s the undisputed best batter in the lineup and boasts a solid 22.08 average in 40 T20 matches played. As of now, Winfield-Hill is the third-highest run scorer in the WBBL, helped largely by her 74 runs in the first game.

Consistent batting has plagued the Stars for some time now, so it appears that the squad still needs to find a lineup that can score runs when the pressure is on. Bess Heath has shown some promise so far, but she’ll have to show a lot more nerve against the Scorchers.

Kim Garth is a bit of a wizard with the ball and had a very solid 2/21 (ER 5.25) against the Sixers. If Garth gets knocked around the park and fails to do much damage with her medium/fast bowling, then the Stars are in trouble.

Pitch and Conditions

The WACA has a lightning-fast pitch and it seems to favour pace bowlers. Batters can have trouble due to the bounce and speed they’ll face. Some rain predicted later in the day could cause problems.

PERW vs MLSW Betting Tips

The Perth Scorchers are the current WBBL champions and have one of the best squads in the league.

The team is a major threat with both bat and ball, and it remains difficult to see just how the Melbourne Stars could defeat them right now.

The Stars have a pretty poor history against the Scorchers, as Perth has a 9-6 record over Melbourne. The Stars have won three games when they were the first batting team, so there’s a small ray of hope there. But Perth is too dominant right now.

Bet on Perth to win.
