Things are getting tighter with every passing match in the Women's Big Bash League. A win for Perth Scorchers over Sydney Sixers further opened up the points table. The race to the top four is going to get a lot clearer in the next four games, which are to be played over the course of couple of days. Sydney Sixers are set to face Perth Scorchers once again in a span of less than 24 hours and will be itching to get two important points this time around. Both the sides are still in the driving seat as far as qualification to the next round is concerned, but a couple of bad results in their respective matches would certainly put their chances to qualify in jeopardy.
The Scorchers had a slow start to the tournament, but a strong middle period has put them in a reasonably good position as far as qualification for the next round is concerned. They are at the third spot on the ladder and another win here would almost ascertain their qualification for the next round.
The Scorchers are having a brilliant time in the tournament. Their top-four batsmen are in superb touch and are more often than not batting their opponents out of the match. The same turned out to be the story of their last encounter as well wherein Natalie Sciver batting brilliantly on a lifeless surface to take Scorchers to a total of 152.
The total proved too much to handle for the Sixers as they kept losing wickets in a quest to score quickly, playing shots that weren't really there against accurate and disciplined Scorchers' bowling. The Scorchers undoubtedly took some extra time to get going in the tournament, but now that they have their prime players is pristine form, they will be the team to beat, not just in the last match, but also in all the matches to follow.
Amy Ellen Jones, Meg Lanning, Georgia Redmayne, Natalie Sciver, Nicole Bolton, Heather Graham, Chloe Piparo, Jemma Barsby, Kim Garth, Taneale Peschel, S Betts.
The absence of Elysse Perry is clearly hurting the Chances of Sydney Sixers. Ever since she has been out of the side, the performance of Sixers has nosedived and their drop in the leaderboard is an evidence of that. They are currently placed at the fourth spot with six wins in eleven matches.
In the last three matches, Sydney Sixers' performance has been mere a shadow of what it was in the middle-part of the tournament. In their last match as well, they were bundled out for just 100 chasing a total of 152. While the absence of Perry has contributed to poor Sixers' form, Alyssa Healy's poor form hasn't helped their cause.
The likes of Armitage, Gardner, and Burns haven't played to their potential yet. Barring Marizanne Kapp, who is contributing well with both bat and ball, no one has contributed consistently and that has been one of the major reasons for the dip in thier performance. The Sixers have a strong unit on paper, but an out-of-form batting will be a major concern for their management. If their batting can find it's rhythm back, the Scorchers won't find it as easy as they did last time around.
Alyssa Healy, Hollie Armitage, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk, Lauren Smith, Jodie Hicks, Sarah Aley, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Stella Campbell.
