The WBBL teams have started to distinguish themselves from one another and a couple of clear front-runners are emerging. Sydney Thunder sits at the top of the table right now with six wins from seven matches. The side has been playing some excellent cricket and is among the strongest teams of the competition.
The Perth Scorchers are among the second rung of WBBL teams. They have four wins from nine matches and are squarely in the middle of the table right now. The Scorchers have, however, played one more match than its competitors and need to get some wins under its belt to feel more comfortable.
The Perth Scorchers will be playing at home against the Sydney Thunder and has two back to back matches against the side.
The Perth Scorchers limped to another defeat in their last match even though Meg Lanning scored a 70 at the top of the order. It was a performance that sort of typified the WBBL season the Perth Scorchers have had so far.
They got off to a good start but just did not have the resources to put down the hammer. From losing their first wickets at 54 in the sixth over, the Scorchers could manage just 136 in their allotted 20 overs even though they had five wickets in hand.
This sort of a batting performance is not going to get them too many wins against the better teams of the WBBL. Up against Sydney Thunder, a side which boasts of some terrific power hitters, Perth Scorchers will have to do much better.
Meg Lanning is the obvious batter to look at to score the most runs in this Perth Scorchers side, however, the likes of Villani, Bolton, and Jones should not be counted out.
Bowling for the Perth Scorchers has been steady without being outstanding. Bolton, Graham, Peschel, and King were in the wickets in the last match. These bowlers need to take wickets consistently against Sydney Thunder because they are a side which will keep coming hard at you.
Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Amy Ellen Jones, Heather Graham, Nicole Bolton, Lauren Ebsary, Chloe Piparo, Kate Cross, Taneale Peschel, Emma King, Piepa Cleary.
Sydney Thunder made short work of the Hobart Hurricanes in their last match, an expected occurrence based on the recent form of both teams. They will know that the Perth Scorchers are a much more dangerous side filled with players capable of springing an upset.
Sydney Thunder’s biggest strength this season has been its powerful and versatile batting lineup. Batters such as Priest, Taylor, Kaur, Haynes, and Stalenburg have shown in the WBBL already what they are capable of.
We believe that Taylor and Kaur make the Sydney Thunder middle order the most powerful in all of the competition. The form of Haynes at the top adds so much balance and depth to the lineup that it is difficult to see Sydney Thunder falling short of runs.
Another thing which has been very apparent in the matches so far has been the flexibility of Sydney Thunder. The side is not afraid to shift its batters around as per the need of the situation or individual matchups.
Similarly, a large number of the playing eleven can bowl and so six to seven players end up rolling their arm over in every single game.
This versatility is a huge plus in T20 cricket and the results seem to prove Sydney Thunder right.
The only possible weakness we see also stems from the strength of Sydney Thunder. Chopping and changing things too much can make the players unsure of their job and cause a decline in productivity. It’s a fine line but Sydney Thunder seems to be threading it with ease right now.
Rachel Priest, Rachael Haynes, Naomi Stalenberg, Harmanpreet Kaur, Alex Blackwell, Stafanie Taylor, Nicola Carey, Rene Farrell, Maisy Gibson, Lisa Griffith, Sam Bates.

The WBBL match between the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder is going to be played at Lilac Hill Park, Perth. The soil in Perth makes it conducive to provide some nice pace and bounce especially when the conditions are hot. In the case of T20 matches, this extra carry in the surface makes for excellent batting conditions.
Expect a high scoring match between two strong batting teams.
The Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Thunder in the last two matches they have played against them but the recent form of both the teams is vastly different. Sydney Thunder is in excellent form, has a strong batting lineup, and a lot of variety in its bowling. The Perth Scorchers are going to be playing at home and have the hugely influential Meg Lanning on its side but we still they think are a bit overmatched in this contest.
Back Sydney Thunder to win.
