About the Match
Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will meet for the first time this season when they fight it out in the 9th Match at Sharjah on 17th February. The Gladiators are in a jubilant mood after winning two straight games; they have 4 points and stand second on the table whereas Zalmi stands first with 4 points and a better NRR. The Gladiators recently defeated Karachi Kings by 7 wickets and will be eager to continue with their winning momentum. Zalmi lost the opening match against United but won the last two games against Qalandars and Kings. Both teams are doing well and will be eager to garner more points here with a win on Friday.
Zalmi is equipped with experienced players like Darren Sammy, Kamran Akmal, Shahid Afridi, Fletcher and Dilshan, who are yet to come out with all their firepower. Kamran Akmal and Dawid Malan scored 88 and 43 runs respectively in the first game against United whereas Eoin Morgan showcased his batting strength scoring 80 off 57 in the match against Karachi Kings and played a major role in registering their first victory.
Speedsters Hasan Ali, Chris Jordan and Wahab Riaz did well to topple the Qalandars batting line-up whereas spinners like Mohammad Asghar, Shahid Afridi and Mohammed Hafeez have proven their mettle taking consistent wickets. While Hasan Ali took 3-23 against Qalandars, Jordan provided 2 quick breakthroughs to stifle the opponents at 59 all-out within the 11th over.
Allrounders like Sammy, Shahid Afridi, Hafeez and Dilshan are pillars of the team and although they are yet to show their prowess in this tournament, we could see some fireworks across the park on Friday.
They have won both their games till now and will be keen to win their third match too. They have experienced players like Kevin Pietersen and McCullum but their performance has not been satisfactory till now. They will be eager to prove their experience in this match and along with captain Sarfraz Ahmed, who scored 56 against Kings, try to squash the efforts of the opposition.
Rilee Rossouw with his explosive batting supported the team well in the last two matches. Against Qalandars, he scored a well-made 60 to set the foundation for a win while he registered a match-wining 76 against the Kings. He has proved to be a reliable batsman in the middle-order.
Speedsters Thisara Perera and TS Mills claimed 5 wickets between them against Kings and could continue doing well; others like Hasan Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Zulfiqar Babar and Anwar Ali are also likely to control the opposite batsmen.
It will be an interesting battle between Zalmi and Gladiators as both teams have aggressive batsmen and result-oriented bowlers, making the sides equally powerful. While Zalmi batsmen could stand on the crease for a long time, we feel that the Gladiators with their balanced pace and spin combination are better placed to outwit the opposition here
