Its time for Paarl Rocks to open their account against the Cape Town Blitz as the Mzansi Super League rockets along. We were treated to a brilliant opening game to the MSL2019 and hope that the rain does not play spoilsport in too many of the following matches.
There has been some unfortunate news regarding injuries ahead of this match, however, there are still some very good players in the fray. Cape Town Blitz has started MSL T20 with a bang this year after beating the defending champions in a very high-scoring match.
Can Paarl Rocks pull off an upset in this encounter?
Paarl Rocks vs Cape Town Blitz MSL 2019 is going to be played at Boland Park, Paarl on the 10th of November 2019.
The loss of JP Duminy from the side is going to be a huge blow for the Paarl Rocks. Duminy was one of the senior players of the side and expected to contribute to both the batting and the bowling. Now that he is not there, the pressure on Faf du Plessis increases.
As the captain of the side, and easily the best batsman in the squad, Faf du Plessis has to find a way of scoring runs and compensating for the absence of JP Duminy. It is not going to be easy but he has some very good players at his disposal.
Henry Davids, Cameron Delport, Dwayne Pretorius, and Kyle Verrayne are very good batsmen and form a strong batting lineup that can support Faf du Plessis quite ably.
There is perhaps a lack of a strong power-hitting batsman in the lower order and that is why the top-order must do the bulk of the scoring. The bowling is also quite good with the likes of Tabraiz Shamsi, Bjorn Fortuin, and Hardus Viljoen in the fray.
Thando Ntini, son of the former legendary fast bowler from South Africa is also in the squad but he may not immediately get a game. Isuru Udana from Sri Lanka is also a very good T20 bowler to have in the side.
The Paarl Rocks have been struck a big blow ahead of the match but it still has plenty in the tank to fight with.
Faf du Plessis, C Delport, Henry Davids, Dwaine Pretorius, Mangaliso Mosehle, Isuru Udana, Sibonelo Makhanya, Ferisco Adams, Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi, Hardus Viljoen.
A brilliant batting performance led by Janneman Malan was the base for Cape Town’s win int opening match of this MSL. He remained not out on 99 and seemed to have gotten tired by the end of the inning. His good form promises some good times ahead for the side, though as all the other major batsmen also got a start.
Quinton de Kock scored 35, Moeen Ali made 25, Liam Livingstone was brutal in his short stay at the crease, and George Linde found the boundary with ease as well. There were still more than useful players left in the shed if needed.
We think de Kock, Moeen Ali, and Liam Livingstone looked very good in the previous match and any one of them could get a big score in this match.
The bowling was very expensive and seemed to struggle in defending a large total of 213. In a match where every other bowler from his side went for over 9 runs an over, Dale Steyn ended up picking three wickets for just 25 runs in his four overs.
It was a champion performance from a champion bowler. Vernon Philander, Anrich Nortje, and Mohammad Nawaz were not at their best but should improve as the tournament progresses. There is just too much experience and skill in this bowling side to suffer for too long.
Janneman Malan, Quinton de Kock, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, George Linde, Mohammad Nawaz, Aviwe Mgijima, VD Philander, SSB Magala, DW Steyn, Anrich Nortje.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first and get a big total on board

There is very little chance of rain forecast in Paarl on match day and so we should have a full match to watch. The pitch at Paarl is good for batting and it is also one of the smaller ground in South Africa. This should make for some exciting viewing as two strong teams go at each other.
We think that a score of about 170 may be par at the venue.
We rate Faf du Plessis’s captaincy very highly but he may not be able to do too much against the might of the Cape Town Blitz batting either. It looks like Blitz has the Rocks outgunned in firepower. The bowling unit of both sides is quite evenly matched, though.
Back the Paarl Rocks to win.
