PLR vs DBH Match Prediction - Dec 04, 2019

It is an important match in the Mzansi Super League 2019 as the Paarl Rocks get ready to take on Durban Heat. Both these two teams had to watch helplessly as the rain ruined their earlier encounter without a single ball being bowled.

With just two matches to go in their campaign, the Paarl Rocks are in a good place to lock up a qualifying spot. One more win in their remaining matches will more or less seal the deal. Durban Heat has won its previous two matches but is likely to need to win all three of its remaining matches as well to try and get into the MSL 2019 playoffs.

Paarl Rocks vs Durban Heat MSL 2019 is going to be played at Boland Park, Paarl on the 4th of December 2019.

PLR vs DBH Team Previews

Paarl Rocks

Five wins from seven completed matches have given the Paarl Rocks a bit of room at the top of the table. They also have a solid net run-rate which is going in their favor but they are not yet certain of a spot in the playoffs just yet.

It took an exceptional inning from Sibonelo Makhanya in the previous match to help Paarl Rocks chase down a stiff total against the Jozi Stars. He came in at 53 for 4 chasing down 172 and never looked in any trouble whatsoever.

He first stitched up a good partnership with Kyle Verrayne and then Isuru Udana towards the end of the inning to guide the Paarl Rocks home. That victory would have given the Paarl Rocks a lot of confidence since none of their top-order batters made a contribution.

Henry Davids, Cameron Delport, Faf du Plessis, and James Vince form a strong top-4 but there were doubts about the batting depth in the side. The performances from Makhanya and Udana in the previous match would have eased some of those concerns.

Bjorn Fortuin and Tabraiz Shamsi continued to be at the top of their games. They have been bowling very economically and picking up wickets too. Isuru Udana had a decent game with the ball but Hardus Viljoen continued to struggle.

Durban Heat has a strong batting lineup and the Paarl Rocks cannot afford for its bowlers to have an off-day.

Paarl Rocks Playing 11

C Delport, Henry Davids, Faf du Plessis, J Vince, Kyle Verreynne, Sibonelo Makhanya, Isuru Udana, Bjorn Fortuin, Hardus Viljoen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kerwin Mungroo.

Durban Heat

Two victories in two matches have helped Durban heat build some momentum into their MSL 2019 campaign. Runs from Alex Hales, Wihan Lubbe, David Miller, Dane Vilas, and Ravi Bopara helped them chase down 174 with ease.

Runs from Hales would have provided a lot of relief to the management since he is one of the star players of this side. If he hits form then we can expect some really big scores from Durban Heat moving forward.

Perhaps the find of MSL 2019 so far has been Wihan Lubbe. Surely the South African selectors are seeing the kind of damage he can do at the top of the order and have him in their sights for the T20 World Cup next year.

Lubbe scored 31 off just 11 deliveries and provided the perfect platform for the batsmen to follow.

With all the major batsmen in good form, the Durban Heat batting lineup is a bit stronger than the Paarl Rocks right now.

The bowling has been a bit of a problem for Durban Heat. Keshav Maharaj picked up three wickets in the previous match but he is not someone that the opposition batsmen are going to worry about. Kyle Abbott has been expensive, Andile Phehlukwayo patchy, and the remaining overs have to be shared between some irregular bowlers as well.

The bowling unit of the Durban Heat is a big vulnerability but if the batting continues to fire then the bowling will also become more effective.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather in Paarl is predicted to be absolutely stunning on match day. There is no threat of rain and the sun will be shining throughout. The pitch in Boland Park has been excellent for batting so far. It is going to test the bowlers on both sides but gives the batsmen a chance to score freely as well.

The spinners have been quite effective in Paarl and that is why the contest between Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi is going to be intriguing.

A score of around 170 seems to be about par for the surface.
